Default What a hassle buying Sudafed

I went to Costco to get a couple boxes of generic Sudafed and the pharmacist said I could only buy one box. I told him I've always bought two boxes and never had a problem and I'm buying the lower dose not the twelve hour. He wouldn't explain just told me it's a regulation and asked if I wanted the one box or not. I talked to the manager and she also said the limit is one box and she said the quantity of pseudoephedrine in the box did not matter and it's because of a new law passed in January 2013. I can't find anything about any new law or regulation. What I bought is 24 30mg tablets, taken at the maximum dosage it's a 3 day supply, I don't take the max but a box only lasts about five days and that's kind of inconvenient to have to buy it every five days. I did find a lot of state laws limiting you to 3.6g per purchase which would be about 5 boxes. I know there's a law, I can't find it but I just can't believe I can only buy a three day supply, is this Costco correct?

WI is the same way. I think it has become an ingredient for ecstasy or crack or something like that, so now they limit what you can buy. I also need a drivers license to purchase here in WI. So now I buy a box when I'm not sick or suffering from allergies just so I have some in stock.

The reason is that pseudoephedrine is used to make meth.

I buy the sudafed severe cold/allergy. I ve never bought more than 1 box at a time.
I guess just buy one box at a time or buy 1 box there and 1 box at a place that has to write it down instead of having to sign for it on electronic pad like Costco. Or try buying 2 at a time elswhere.

It's a controlled substance these days here in Ohio as well. Limited quantities, you have to sign for it, and they track your purchases.

Run all over the County and buy up a bunch of it and see how quickly the Sheriff is kicking your door down looking for a Meth Lab!......Cliff

This appears to be the statute in Illinois that limits the sale of Sudafed and similar drugs: http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/ilcs...6&ChapterID=53

I think it does help. They've had similar laws in Minnesota for some time now and my understanding is the amount of active meth labs is way down from where it used to be. Of course, the illicit drug makers are just moving on to other things like synthetic marijuana and bath salts.

Yes, it's a pita. Years ago I found pseudoephedrine works very well for chronic sinus inflammation from what I can tell is just from working in a friggin cold medical and office environment. Go outside in warm weather and it will clear right up but that only works when the weather cooperates and when I can spend enough time outside. Let that inflammation get out of hand for too long and wham, here comes a headache. Sinus headaches are very painful.
There's always a slow moving line at the pharmacy counter where you have to buy it. At least move it to the front counter (like with the tobacco products ironically) where the line moves faster. Making it inconvenient for law abiding citizens is just wrong.

Pretty soon we'll have to buy our meds and leave them at the pharmacy. Everyday line up and get 1 pill and one of those little paper cups

The whole thing is stupid b/c it has done zero to curb the meth problem. If this concept really worked they would have regulated lithium batteries, Coleman fuel, acetone, and 2 litre plastic bottles as well. Nobody with a meth lab is buying the stuff off the shelf. That is only single pot geeks who are just end users. The real issue is from the people buying it direct from China and cases of it from wholesalers. This is just a high profile feel-good/looks like we are doing something effort.

I have dealt with a lot of cops trying to stop meth users and dealers, and I don't really think there is any plan or goal to stop it. From what I have observed the attitude is "It's a serious problem" but we're not really making a whole lot of effort b/c there is nothing we can do about it. This is after you get them to admit there is an issue in your area to being with by providing irrefutable evidence.

Everyone knows its a scourge and illegal to start with. Should be a life sentence for a second offense involving the substance. It is going to kill them anyway as there is only a single digit percentage chance they will rehab and they will be stealing our stuff and committing violence against others continuously until death if left outside. And, it takes so long for it to happen some how.

You can thank the meth users and makers for that law. And more to come, as the meth epidemic continues to rot this country from the inside out.

Stuart - Thanks for the link, the pharmacist and manager are wrong. According to the statute you are limited to one "convenience package" which is a package less than 360mg but you can buy two packages if they are larger than 360mg.

Does not make sense that you can buy two larger packages but only one smaller package. Unfortunately for me the larger package is a bigger dose which gets me too jittery. Always a line at the pharmacy so going every 4 days is a hassle.

Yes, its everywhere. I moved out here to Pa to get away from the craziness of NY. I live among the Amish and miles of cornfields. Just the other day, a meth lab was raided not far from me.

You think that's bad, I got carded for a box of matches. I thought the lady was kidding. The register sounded a beep, and I had to show my license. WTF!!! And now they are setting up meth labs at hotels around here. The one at the end of my town got raided three times. Face it the world it screwed up!

Our UNET cops just busted a meth lab way, way back in a county park close by. This is the newest wrinkle since the feds started seizing real estate used for meth labs.

This is, of course, right after the biggest meth bust in U.S. history took place in a rented house just outside the city limits. All kidding aside, there must have been a hundred cops on that property for a week removing meth and the cooking apparatus.

Tweakers. Oughta just shoot 'em.

My wife is a security officer for a local college, She went into CVS to get a few things while on duty (wearing uniform). One of the things was nail polish remover, they would not sell it to her without her drivers license.
