I'd like to know too. They seem to be one of the few companies that has a real 28'' tall tire for a 17'' diameter wheel. I'm contemplating using their 325/45R17 on my Tempest project.

Ah didn't see that. I figured with it being a radial it was street approved. ET Street gets my vote then. I've got them on the back of my Goat and they hook.

Been thinking of trying some of the 555-r.
Yes, I was referring to the 555's and I do use the 555r's.

Any of these tires are a compromise and I believe your intended use should dictate which way for you to go. In my case, I drive on the street quite a bit. A few years ago, I went out to Phoenix for Pontiac Heaven, raced my car, and drove back. That type of use makes me prefer a tire with slightly improved road manners over one with the best strip performance.

But those old school Polyglas hook better than any regular street radial.
They do...the old Kelly Supercharger Bias ply and Soft compound Pro-trac were better yet... for some reason both those tires worked best at 38-40 psi...go figure...

In 90's back before TA drag radial McCreary dirt track "DOT" worked as well as slicks... better than an L60 M+H wrinkle wall dot tire, way better than Pro-trac or M/T soft compound which were best they had then and M/T was just releasing their slicks in same time frame.

About time the TA radial came along the McCreary was available with a soft compound which was even better... I ran very consistant with them...1.52-1.54 60's at 3910 avg race weight, carrying the front tires 6+" 10-12ft out.... Saw plenty of race use... 2000-2500 street miles a year. Only needed/liked a light haze/clean at burnout and only slipped a tid on non track surface with no preheat.(if you did spin them doin a dry burnout they were the loudest damn shreik I'd ever heard from a tire) They were alot lower cost than anything else as well.

Tried to beat a storm home once... 75+ and what seemed a wall of water come down... couldnt see well at that speed so slowed to 50 or so... surprisingly the tires were no worse/ maybe better than drivin in light snow(which I had plenty of practice...I lived in upstate NY then) Keep in mind I originally tried these tires because I saw how well they hooked my friends BBC dirt track car on clay... tried his set in the parking lot and had him get me a set.

American Racer has the same tires McCreary is no more... I ran the 285/60-15 which worked better than the 305/60(borrowed and friend was reluctant to swap back) which had a slightly different tread and barely much difference in tread width. The soft compound was worth about .04 on my car both were consistant and did best on track at 13-14 psi...19-20 was most comfortable on the street/highway. A bit too much sway in corners at 13.5 range. Tires were lightweight and only 2-ply but never cut one... they werent built as wrinkle wall but indeed wrinkled. Needed rim screws but contact cement did fine just hard to get off. Also ran radials up front when the old bias got weather checked and unless you hit a serious ridge they were fine.

Never got crap from law enforcement including NY state police in a check-point (trap) inspection. They did look at the tires and one grumped about exhaust but other pointed out tailpipes to bumper and commented I was tryin to keep it reasonable.

My current project will need a M/T Sportsman-Pro or similar... or I'd be lookin at the American Racer... The smallest I could consider would be a 325/50-15 Goodyear drag radial and then use slicks at track... not what I'd like and the GY dont look much like a streetable tire if it got near moisture.

Guess it boils down to what YOU are comfortable with and what your willing to compromise on.

Good point as I really had not looked into the details of those new tires. http://www.mickeythompsontires.com/s...treetRadialPro
I run their other street radials on both my f-bodies, 17's on the '97 and 15's on the 68. Great tires.
MT needs to drop the 'street' name in the latter version. Naming them a 'street' tire that is 'NOT FOR STREET USE' is begging for confusion. 'Radial Pro' sounds catchy enough and describes the tire well.

I recently replaced with MT Street Radials on my wagon with the Goodyear Eagle DOT radials. The Goodyears are actually a teensy bit larger all-around, even though they are the same size (275/60-15).

I haven't gotten to the track with these tires yet, but they seem REALLY sticky on the street - more than the MT's. They also cost LESS than the MT's.

I was still able to pull a 1.52 60' with the OLD MT's, before replacing them (bald).

M/T's hook well on the street but if you drive on the street alot you should know they only last about 4k miles. I have 2 turbo cars and I drive the heck out of them they start hurting the wallet fast! Just the cost of doing buisness I guess. lol.

I got about 10k miles out of my MT's. I bought them in '08, still had them when I used them on the Power Tour (4,400 miles on that trip alone) and finally replaced them earlier this year. Maybe 100 or so passes at the track, and I never get carried away with burnouts.

My first set of MT drag radials lasted a long time. The new set are the MT drag radial II. They have a few more tread groves and I am thinking they are softer. Every time I break them loose or just haze them a little, they roll up the rubber on surface and will not hook for crap! It takes many miles of light driving to get them smooth again and they will hook pretty good until they spin again. They are very new and already worn a lot. I am looking at going to 18's in the rear because there are some tires out there around 27" tall. The 17" nitto 555r's are around 25.5 tall. Would be nice to have something that somewhat matches the 555,s on the front. For some time now I have thought the car was not pulling hard from mid range up in first gear. After some playing around on a light asphalt road, I can see the car is hazing the tires through first gear long after it seems to be hooked. I think the MT,s are just too soft. Think I am going to put the torque arm set up back on.
