Default Newbie here. Just bought the previously mentioned "red" vert on MSP Craigslist

Good evening all. This is my first post to the PY forum. Looks like a great site with lots of friendly and knowledgeable people.

As the title states I picked up the extremely dirty red 1962 "vert" referenced in the last 2 posts. I got it from a cool guy that owns an auto body shop near me in Wisconsin. He has a ton of cars and is downsizing due to selling the farm where this and some other cars were located as well as not having enough time to complete all of them.

It has a 4cyl, 4bbl and 3-speed. It was parked 7 years ago and sat. He had his mechanic change the fluids and such. After installing a new coil it fired right up. I only drove it onto the flat bed and into my garage. It is idling high but then again I didn't run it more than a minute each time so it didn't have time to warm up.

This weekend I will post some more pics to give you all an idea of the condition. I have read a ton of posts on here the last few days and will do my best to utilize the search function before asking any questions.

I look forward to working on this car and picking your brains. Thank you in advance for your assistance and have a nice Thanksgiving.

Todd

Thanks Keith. I got excited again and had to run out and snap a few pics. Sorry for the crappy quality. They did put a quick wash on it for me. Looks a lot better than 7 years of crud.

Thanks 63Banshee. To be honest when I bought it a few days ago I hadn't done much research on them price wise. It is obvious now they can be had cheaper but it is solid and was 15 minutes from my house. More importantly it is different and it seemed to be calling my name from it's "deep slumber".

Very nice car. I see the Tempest has already appropriated a nice spot in the garage and a daily driver will have to sit out during the Wisconsin winter.

Yes Jim.

Scraping ice and snow off the DD is a small price to pay.

Default to good to be true

That 61 ebay wagon looks too good to be true. Buy it now for only $13,900 sounds a little fishy to me. Those of us that have restored or modified a 61-63 Tempest (especially a wagon) know that $13,900 doesn't get you anywhere close to that car. Great deal for someone, if it is legit.

Nah, there are at least a few of us here buying/building outside the box.

Agreed, Farmer. The price is low, but the market is going to crap right now -- at least for sellers.

Thanks John. Nice looking car you have. Glad to hear that there is a 61-63 base here.
We'll see what I decide when it comes time for paint. It was originally the maroon looking red, forgot the name off hand. Now it is just a faded shell of a formally bright red. Take care, Todd
