Karl, I do understand what a hero is here is a newspaper article on my father, from the Opelousas Daily World where I am actually from.
I was using the hero in this context to encourage HarryK.

HIS -Brad Urban was still alive and at carb shop when my carb was there. Multiple track testings had rejetted slightly for improved times. 455 Builc buddy borrowed it for a dyno test and equalled a Holley 850 DP-so a decent carb. The other "out of the box" was one of those "bad" Demons -which made 695 Hp on my IA.

So I would think both were "decent carbs"-the motor just liked one with an adapter better.

Since we are telling Dyno stories about old carbs under the bench:

Truck PRO STOCK Engine on the dyno (Team was very competitive in the class).

Owner spends $X,XXX for each (two) of the latest and greatest PRO STOCK carbs from a well known carb builder who charged a lot for his stuff in that time frame.

Dyno test was run and engine made XXXX Horsepower.

Owner of team said do we have any other carbs to compare the testing to.

Dyno Owner said I have a pair of old CHUCK GULLEDGE (HOLLEY ENGINEER) carb under the bench. So theyblew the dust off of them and ran them on the engine.

The old Carbs made more hp vs the Brand New EXPENSIVE Hot Chit carbs.

So I believe your story about a Q-Jet that could be 3 seconds faster vs a POS carb with no tuning. I have seen super stock guys with old beat up carbs that they would not sell for any money.

Just Saying.

Technically, makes me think about the textures on the old used carbs: throttle plate edges, venturi erosions, jet erosions, fuel seat erosions, etc.

just maybe some "emulsion flow" & "wet flow" matters of fact are hidden in texture detail.

With all the Q jet talk what would be the best performance model to use? 454 800 cfm model?

What about the Holley DP Q jet performance replacement? Would that be considered a "Matching" test?

Not trying to stir the pot just thinking I should take a stack of intake gaskets, carbs, and intakes to go test...

Would a 1970 factory intake off a GP be a good test intake?

Yes there is a lot of talk about Q-jets but the main debate was just using spreadbore carb on spreadbore intake and squarebore carb on squarebore intake for "optiminum " matching of components or at least not a gross mismatch.
Not sure of which Q-jet is best. I believe the 73-74 SD carbs are up there but not very resonable due to the rarity of them. The 71(?) Buick 800 cfm is also a good choice iirc. And is it the 68-72 intakes that are the better ones?

Yes I understand that, I just like testing things for myself....

Did some research and I know what to look for on the 800 Q jet
I'll just need a little help with jet size and rods.

Not shure what car I want to try it on yet LOL

Winter is driving me crazy !!!!!
