I saw one episode of a show called 'FantomWorks' and the same there...The quality of the work shown and the difficulty and time required was so much more realistic than the typical 'reality show' stuff you see on 'Desert Car Kings' and that type of CRAP.

I also like the "Chasing Classic Cars" show pretty well. He finds some interesting things and they at least feature the cars themselves more than just his thoughts, etc...

I mean, they are all somewhat crappy to a certain degree but 'Desert Car Kings' and 'American Car Prospector' have to take the cake.

I like "Chasing Classic Cars", but my current favorite reality car show is Wheeler Dealer. Scripting is at a minimum, and they actually show the mechanic doing some work on the cars they buy.

The Prospector was a bit of a stretch, in the couple episodes I could stomach. Did you hear him talking about his foreign buyers who apparently are waiting to give him more than the cars were worth???

The only show I find remotely funny or somewhat interesting is Fast N Loud, they did a cool show about a Bandit TA everything was far fetched but the show with Richard dreaming he was Burt was done very well.
The quality of their car work seems sketchy, they have not figured out how to break in a cam. The inflated prices they get for stuff is just crazy. But overall the show is tolerable and you can get a few laughs, without looking at some duffis acting like he knows cars and some moron with a rag on his head.

Ok we all agree these shows are crap. Let's get together at Norwalk this year and shoot some real footage!

Bounce around some ideas before we get there, get some of our knowledgeable people to talk or be talked to and come up with a few concepts.

Maybe interview a couple of our Legends a Q&A, whatever. A few special interest cars. A flea mkt crawl etc. mix it up with some scheduled stuff and some walk arounds.

I can bring some equipment (cameras microphones lights etc) and clean it up a bit afterwards. Let's see if we can come up with something worth watching.

I actually like 'Wheeler Dealer' myself but couldn't remember the name of it. I think part of it is that the little Brit that does the buying actually seems a likable guy. Also like the fact that they actually show the mechanic doing realistic troubleshooting and repair.

Spike to off most of the good shows to put more football on so it's about the only car (half ass show ) show on the air waves . So you have almost nothing else to watch if you want to watch car programs. If thats what you want to call this show. It's more about him not the cars. He reminds me of a child molester they always catch on those hidden camera shows.

That show would work for me if they just stuck to the technical stuff, how it was done, how they are reproducing the techniques, where they get the parts, the production numbers of the cars and how you decode them etc.. Unfortunately they let him talk like a 10 y.o. girl who doesn't get enough attention.

The first episode I saw of that show impressed me, in that they actually seemed to know what they were doing. The "drama" level has since increased- I'm sure at the request of the show's producers. The easiest way to make up forced drama is the childish behavior. It may be annoying, but it's still better than the "we only have 3 days to get the car done!" formula so many car shows use.

I to wish they would show more of what they do to the car, more of the actual work & a lot less belittling of the other guys. I would like to see who is doing the body work & paint work because the guys on the show don't seem to have the talent to be doing it. I would like to see them working on the body to see who is doing the work not just the putting the parts back on the car. GYC may do good work but who is doing the work , not the big mouth.

That is what I do like about the English show, "Wheeler Dealer". At least half the the show is the actual work being done. If they have to farm it out to get something done, we get to see that too. I think it really is probably the best of those shows. No soap opera plots, no drama, just buying, repairing and at the very end, selling the car to someone. The guy Mike, has a good sense of humor but doesn't overdo it. Edd the mechanic is very good at explaining what he's doing on the mechanical end.
The results are realistic in that they aren't doing full restos but buying clean, interesting collector cars, repairing and reselling for a modest profit.
The cars are generally not the kind of cars we deal with much on this site but still, very interesting. I loved the Blue 1970 Fiat 'Dino' they did the other night.

I laugh every time I see them use a rattle can aka: "spray bomb" to refinish an exterior 1/4 et al panel! Still neat show, like it too often when they barter exchanging incorrect "take-off" wheels and parts to return to OEM appearance.

Some episodes of CCC will do the same showing some of the restoration techniques used to resurrect a dead drivetrain, etc.

Pretty good episode too when they did the early 70s Jaguar 'Type E'. Interesting to see the shop that restored the spoke wheels, replacing individual spokes with the antique equipment that rolled threads, etc..
