Hey guys, I have done some seafoam with some of my more troublesome vehicles through the years. All I have done is dump it into the tank, and never put it through a vacuum line, or into the oil (I don't think I will do this one).
Anyway, I am looking into putting it through the vacuum line. I have a 67 400ci, and for those of you that do this/have done this, which line is the best? Any other tricks/hints other than to let it warm up first/rev it to 2k when doing it? |

I wouldnt do the oil thing either. I do this on my truck about every three months or so. I just pull the brake vacuum line at idle.

What is seafoam? Is it one of those oil sludge treatments?

Yes and no. I am not super technical into it (naming all the different chemicals in it, etc) but it comes in a 500 ml (1/2 quart?) can. There are different methods it can be put in to clean. I think the most common is dumping a full can into the gask tank, but another method is 1/3 of a can sucked through the vacuum line, 1/3 into the gas tank, and 1/3 (1.5oz for every quart of oil, so it's not exactly 1/3 of a can) into the crankcase and drive for about 50-100 miles before changing your oil.
As you can see the oil part might not be the most popular here, but apparently it does clean it out good...and some people worry a little too good that it might fill up the oil filter, etc. Either way I haven't heard anything other than good things about the vacuum line/fuel tank way. Sure, it is a decent chunk of coin, but it has rave reviews and I get it at cost anyway |
