My car has been hibernating for a while but it's back out of the garage and may actually be ready to hit some car shows this year. I'd like to have a display sign made up. How many here have a display they use? Pictures?

I had my local sign shop do a display for mine. You might ask around your local sign shops to see if any of them has any experience in doing show car displays. I didn't put a picture in mine simply because the display will be sitting right beside the actual car itself. I thought it would be redundant.

Over the years when I show the Sprint I found that most signage used is either too large and detracts from the car itself or the sign has way too much information listed and most just walk off/by. I've also used the photo album but just like the sign most folks flip a page or two and move on.
I decided carrying a large sign not only is a PITA but not doing what I intended to. So I now have several 8x10 framed items that I sit on the core support.
I have a brief intro/history on the OHC along with reprints of actual ads from my collection.
I can switch it up real quick so it's not always the same ol same.
I have found this to work very well, as it's small enough to make them look closer and short enough to hold their attention and always leads to conversations rather than a breeze by.

This isn't anything more then my opinion but whatever you choose all I ask is Please Please don't use any of those stupid bumper dolls!

I've also been thinking about making up a sign for my 64 Catalina. I did find one company, but they wanted around $200 for a decent one.

The stuffed tigers on the roof or seat don't do much for me, either.

The RAV car in the background has a whole wall of display information.

On the other hand, you’ll notice the non-descript black ’65 GTO does not have a big fancy sign. All of the other guys in the display told me they weren't bringing their signs when I asked them.

That Blue sign is a prime example of my observation of the too big and too much info crammed within.

We use these for our cars, several people at the local cruise-ins & shows use these (the base can be weighted with pea gravel so it doesn't blow around). You can have custom graphics made by them, use a local shop, or do it yourself. We just print out two 8.5x11 pages ourselves on heavy paper stock - one is a brief listing of the car specs and the other is a vintage ad. This way we can change it up or update as needed with very little cost.

Whatever you do keep it short and simple.

You mean the past trophies won by the previous owner?

We I go up to a car at the shows I enjoy seeing window stickers, old photos of that car (not a similar car you had 30 years ago), vintage ads, anything connected to the car's history.

One cold winter day last year I sat at the computer and designed my own info board. I think it turned out well for an amateur. My wife took it to work where she had the print shop put it on foam-core. Sometimes I prop it under the opened hood, and other times I place it in the back seat or lean it against the front bumper.
People interested will usually take some time to read at least some of it. Many will start a conversation after reading it.



I tried to keep it short yet provide as much info that I thought might be of interest.

1. Drive car to show.
2. Park car and leave it.

Im not here to stare at my own car, I want to go walk around and look at others. And Im not bringing props to stuff in, on, or around my car. You wouldn't believe what some people put into their cars for props. One guy had a mannequin in the passenger seat, all dressed up. I guess he was trying to get in the HOV lane huh?

Yea I did the ISCA thing years ago and realized NOPE NOT FOR ME.
Thanks but owning a 100+K full scale model car isn't my thing.

Well, a mannequin certainly seems a bit over the top. Do people actually do that? I've seen the tiger thing done and it seems a bit tacky. I thought a brief history on the cars unusual past might be nice.

I don't like the signs that block the view of the car. If you want to put an unobtrusive sign in front of the car, you could do one about 8"x 60" and stand it up on the ground in front of the car.
