To others that are passionate about this hobby the Hurst can is not "worthless stuff" and is backed up by the high price that is set by supply and demand!

Yes, they shipped the wheels in them. Two in each drum.

Here is a nice little page of HURST vintage info regarding the wheels and cans (below).

You used to see them in popular speed shops sitting around on display.

Used as ash tray sand pit or rag can too back in the day.

HURST has alot of neat collectible stuff rather hard to find. I had a speed shop actual shifter display at one time but sold it to someone that came visiting and saw it, he "had" to have it.

Few things left. Two I know of on PY here have large HURST item collections, maybe they will share some items.

They were an expensive (metal cans instead of cardboard boxes) way to ship the Hurst wheels. Each can originally contained two wheels.

As a result of this intended purpose, the cans were almost all damaged in some way, to some extent, before the first buyer even saw them. Absolutely perfect cans today are very, very rare! Cans complete with lids and lid retainer rings are also fairly hard to find.

Going off memory I think they were $ 68.55 each including trim ring, standard "flat" cap and spring clips (when applicable). I do not remember if lug nuts were included in this price. Dennis Kirban would know the real numbers.

I think Hurst wheels look better mounted on bias tires rather than radials. But since I drive my car a lot I went with redline radials.

Sorry Greg I bought a set of Hurst cuff links right after I bought my first set of Hurst wheels in Carlisle in 1983. Frank Rizzo told me you cant be a Sharp Dressed Man and drive your Judge Convertible Eliminator without them so I to am guilty as charged, sorry again Greg. Regards Hobi.
