For reference the 275/45/18's on the back on the 67' are 27.7" tall. Pretty close to the 28" commonly used 275/60/15 like I have right now.
what wheels are on the 67 GTO?

That's a pretty sweet looking wheel. I wonder who is pimping Boyd Coddington's name these days.

Isn't it Boyd's son running that show?

Dunno. Last I heard, there was total chaos and lack of leadership. Sounds like Wisconsin State government.

Agreed. That is a sweet looking wheel and it looks awesome with the midnight blue too. Theyre a bit out of my price range though pretty reasonable for a forged wheel especially compared to a forgeline or Boze etc. You should check his build thread on PT.com. CFster is his handle. LS3, auto, Kore3 brakes, SC&C stage II with the AFX spindles, stock blue interior. Its a beautiful car and very well done.

I also heard the boys owned half of the Boyd name and someone else owned the other half or something like that.

Back from the blast and powder coat. I was torn between a semi-gloss black and satin black. I went with the satin. It turned out great. The little weird spots you might see are dried snow. the weather in Iowa has been horrible all winter. When I brought it home Friday/Saturday it was no exception. Anyhow... I'm extremely satisfied with the work done here.

Oh well here are the shots....

Looks good. I P.C. my frame and I have not regret it at all. Motorsports out of Delevan WI did mine and they P.C'd insde and out. Tough as nails and it cleans up very well. Problem with my car is that it is so pretty underside that I spend as much time cleaning the underside as I do the top side. Sick, I know!

No, I did not. When I sand blasted it, I painted it a semi-gloss black. The bottom of the car was soooo pristine, I wanted to make it a bit of a show piece. Probably a mistake because now I spend time under the car cleaning and detailing it. The next car I build will be under coated on the bottom side and lizard skinned in the interior. If I could find someone with the ability to spray line-x on the bottom side of the car before assembly, that would be the ultimate.

Ive given the Rhinoliner or Lizard skin some thought but im not sure how much work goes into prepping the underside and im limited on time to get this done. My underside is rust free and clean as a whislte though. I would probably just have to power spray the oil resedue off, laquer thinner the entitire underside and spray but that sounds like it would take a week by the time I did it all myself. I think im going to end up Dynamatting the interior.

Well let the fun begin. I have the whole week off to get this done so im hoping I can get it almost ready to roll by the weekend. It was nice enough to drive my GTO to the garage and start on the frame swap. Here she is around 11am and then again around 4pm. The engine is ready to pull right away in the AM. Lots of little things done today. The front sheetmetal is obviously gone, along with that the headers and exhaust, drive shaft, shifter and linkage, clutch linkage, radiator, ebrake hardware, harnesses, gauge connections, are all out.

Im hoping I can get to get the old frame out tomorrow but we will see. I need to pull the steering column, rear axle, fuel system, brake and gas lines, and break the front suspension down before any of that happens.....Ill probably be updating daily as I go.

That is quite the project. I have been there and know what you are up against. If I lived closer, I would definitely come over and drink your beer and watch you work!

What are you using to lift the body? 2 cherry pickers?

As far as the underside, if you are not planning on removing the undercoating, I would power wash it to get the grease off and then hit the underside with a light coat of under coating to make it all look uniform. Use the 3M stuff and it comes out real nice.

Don't get squashed under the car.

Well you're always welcome to make the drive! Ill buy whatever beer you want! It's just me and my Dad helping out. I was in Madison over the weekend for the big10 wrestling tourney...it was about 3 hours exactly.

I'm got a cherry picker, some floor jacks and a 2 ton chain hoist to use....i'm not 100% sure exactly how i'm going to get it done yet?? Iv'e never done this before. I think i'm going to do one end at a time with the cherry picker and set it up on some 4X4's and cinder blocks

I'm definitely not removing any undercoating. I don't have time for that. I do have a power washer though and could hit it tomorrow after I get the body off and spray it in the morning. I wonder how long it takes to dry?

Does the 3M stuff come in a spray can? I don't have an air compressor good enough to run a spray gun. The compressor is literally older than my GTO....haha

I'm going to try my hardest to not get squashed....promise

you were in Madison area and didn't give me a call???? Well, then...I know how I rank. Actually, I am about 15 minutes SE of Madison. you could have come over and seen my wreck...um, I mean my car.

I would hit it with the pressure washer and then use your air gun to blow it dry. Let it dry good over night...using fans and heat lamps help. And then hit it with the under coating the next day. You don't have to use 3M...any good under coating will do. Just mask up...that crap is not good for your lungs. Comes in spray can

Could use the cherry picker with some good tow straps on the pockets that are open to the front frame mounts. Get the front up a bit and then use a jack under the gas tank brace in the back to get the rear off the frame. Get a couple pieces of 1/2" flat stock (2" wide or so) and bolt that to the rear frame body mounts - sticking out of the back o the car. Use a tow strap with the chainhoist to pick off the flat stock from the rear of the car. I am assuming that you have a way to support the chain hoist in the garage? I am sure that there are better ways, but it gives you a start. Take the seats out of the car to lighten it up a bit. Every little bit helps.

Remember, there is no rush. If you don't get it done, there is always the next day or the next day after that.

Pictures of how I did mine the first time. I used 6X6 treated lumber and 2X4's to make wood cross-braced boxed frame stands. Bases were doubled up 3/4" plywood with 6" long 3/8" lag bolts bolted into the 6X6 from the bottom. The 2X4s made a box frame and cross braces. It was really strong. I cut slots in the 6X6 for the rocker pinch welds to rest in. I raised the car up with a couple of floor jacks, slid the stands in and then unbolted the frame and lowered the frame out of the body. I had all suspension off of the car to make it really easy. Not ideal, but it worked. Rust free convertibles are really strong and I had ZERO problems with body flex
