Great looking Tempest! I prefer the Tempest rear taillight treatment to the LeMans---so much so I converted my Lemans racecar into a Tempest.
FYI, you can post as many as five pictures with each post. Just keep repeating the upload process while you're on the "Manage Attachments" screen, until you have them all up there. Good luck with your car. Jim

Keith, your 4 bbl looks way different than mine and the carb is facing the passenger side rather than the front?

That's how early 4bbl Tempests roll.

One thing about the 63-Tempest, LeMans is that you can fit a hole lot of
tire in the back wheel well. Look at R70judge pics of his build. GT. |

Thats due to the intake manifold. Look close & you will see that its a dual plane manifold. This is a 61 only manifold. Very heavy, twice the weight of the 62-63's. The 62-63 manifolds are a single plane. 61= more torque,,62-63= more Hp.

I started doing brake shoes on my 62. The rear are done, front tomorrow. Should be road testing Thursday? Parted a 61 4 door last year that had new shoes on it.

Install more correct AFB 4 bbl and fuel line (the one on the car when I bought it last year was a Buick application, fuel line in right front rather than left rear side). Found a period correct Pontiac carb, had it rebuilt, just waiting for some warmer temps.
Still looking for trans kickdown and dashpot brackets for the carb. Might have to have them fabricated. A picture of the original '63 parts would help if anyone has them. Need to figure out easiest way to extend bucket seat travel rearward a couple inches. A good cleaning, then polish and wax the paint. Otherwise, ready to hit the road, do some cruising, maybe a couple local shows, etc. All we need is Spring to arrive. Wicked cold here in CT., and more snow predicted for late weekend. |

Here is a pic last fall... Working on collecting parts for my punch list of shakedown items:
- New upper ideler arm (last new piece needed) - New rear gears (Motive .... Richmonds whine too much) - SD dual quad linkage .... progressive linkage stinks don't like the variable pedal pressure - Need to solve the loss of brake pedal when turning wheels near locks - Also working on Wall art project with Lemans front end with function lights! - Todd |

Tom
Here is the repo SD linkage from Fab Craft I just purchased: http://fabcraftmetalworks.com/cgi/co...n&key=EN3-0120 The second photo is the progressive linkage my setup has .....which runs the rear carb first and then with uneven pedal pressure it opens the front carb. I assume that this Fab-craft linkage is not progressive like my current setup. Is this not the same as the factory setup? |

Made my own progressive. The back carb still comes in just off idle. Easier to stage for racing. Had to be careful when pulling into garage or trailer when I had the carbs hooked together. 63 tempest 421 SD-Street and Race car

The left pic linkage is the factory,it is progressive. It opens the rear carb first and then pulls in the front carb.It can be setup solid but as installed on the factory cars it was setup progressive.Tom

Here is my 13 year old suns 62 LeMans we got it for a core motor and so far he has got a 70 400 long block turbo 400 tranny and is looking at a ladder bar set up for his rear end swap and is looking into the transmission tunnel swap. It is great to see him so motivated for a project like this. Please don't mind the mopar s/s hood scoop he wanted to see what it looked like being kind of era correct But he has decided on a super duty scoop for authenticity

I am using an Offy 360 with 2 '65 AFBs. I have tried both progressive and direct but it appears to work better direct. Any pictures or suggestions would help. |

Been working on the wife's convertible. The trim is about finished and the power brakes are installed. The 326 engine is under wraps waiting its turn. As soon as more of the mechanicals are finished, the new convertible top needs installed and then it will be the original interiors turn.

I would really be interested in seeing how you handled your power brakes? John

John,
I used a complete NOS set up. The car has stock drum brakes with modern brake shoe linings. The pwr brake system looks like the used one in the attached pictures. The wheel cylinders and hard lines are also new. I found that the power brake pedal requires a 2" lower hole than the standard brakes to attach the booster rod and a higher hole in the firewall for the booster rod. |
