Not sure if this one was posted before, but it appears to be from 1974.

I thought the same thing. Now that would be pretty cool. He has driven that 72 all over the US hauling parts and cars. Might dig that old thread back up and re-read it.

Only thing that'd make it a better photo would be a SD Formy/TA and/or '74 GTO on the outside main line. Nice to see the '74 Grand Am at Royce Barnett Pontiac.

You'd hardly recognize the building today.
Planet Motorsports sign on a reworked fascia. The driveway cut and same light standards still there. https://www.google.com/maps/@34.0632...4vqKa_EZHA!2e0 |

I was recently sent this shot taken at the old Detroit Dragway, probably around 64/65 I do not remember this car, but I would have only been about 5 years old when this was taken.
Does anyone have any info on 421SD Tempest in the shot?

Scroll down a few pages to the 4th pg (#46) to see the "ROTUNDA TACH" installed by CARS magazine in a 1966 model test. 1st I recall this particular brand...most everyone used SUN Brand that I remember.

That family owned dealership is still in business (on a different street), now selling Cadillacs, GMC and Buick. I think it started in 1937.

That is the car that started my family on Pontiacs - Dad saw it at Royal before George did. We had an opportunity to buy it (in boxes) for about $3600 and turned it down (...too much money). K

Gotta love those old single post lifts! This looks like a 1947 Pontiac gettin' a lube job.

Remember when? and there was no extra charge, even if you only bought $1.00 worth.

Wow, I'd love to know the story of this one! Looks like the designer took the bubble cockpits from the Firebird III (General Motors Dream Car), but then decided to blend in actual remnants of the Pontiac Firebird (which didn't share anything with the original GM Dream Car Firebirds, I, II, and III), then added some Pegasus styled wire wheels, and a front end from the powerful Mach 5!
So I dub thee, the Firebird Pegasus Mach 5 (with cheese). ![]() ![]()
