LOL!!!! Glad you can join me in these sleepless nights! It gets lonely.
I checked my parts manual and it had a picture of a two barrel motor with the three hole type, but no pictures of a 4bbl to compare it to. |

sheet 12H-12, and no magnifying glass..Bob..I do think its the right clip..I have a rear alt. bracket coming so I will see how it fits on..and I did ask the guy if he had another(see, thinking of you)..but he did not..I received 2 other perhaps rear wire speaker clips for an A -body..however, if it does work right someone must have one, has to be a common clip..I will check ADK hardware, as they sell some GM clips..those items went out today, as I waited hoping I got a spare, sorry

Looks to me like I see the threaded hole that's eluding you. In your picture it is in the ~8:30 position and approximately 2" from the center. Maybe this is a sign that you are not meant to have a spacer and bolt and should send it to me since I too am in the hunt for one - hah. Look again and I think you'll find it. Bob |

I think Bob is right, can't get out to get a picture of my 73, but searching through threads, came across this....

The bolt hole is there. There is a specific rear bracket for the alternator that uses a longer bolt and a spacer in between the alternator back and the bracket.

This is the correct rear bracket for the 80 amp alternator, along with a couple shots of my 73 SD. It used the same brackets as the 72 80 amp setup. Give me a yell if you need any other photos. I still have a photo archive from my 72 HO cars.

....there is a threaded hole..although it looks like it was never used...it takes a 5/16-18- 1 3/8 bolt...I made a mistake as my water neck bolt is the correct length, its not 5/16..so I am making progress..thanks for the help....NJSTEVE,thanks for posting those photos..that is exactly what I needed!...thanks!!

thanks to P.Y. MEMBER OL PINION HEAD I have a rear alternator bracket and spacer, the spacer is the same ones used on the power steering pump (available in repo kit for $39,not good MOTORCITY MUSCLE CARS)..I installed the clip where I believe it should go..however that causes the connector to be to short to plug in..I can easily lengthen the connector an inch or mount the clip differently for greater length..plus I am still hunting down hardware..it seems wherever a regular washer goes, I got a lock washer instead..I have measured every bolt and it matches the assembly so far..as for lock washers its probably whoever assembled it..as all parts are similar in the general vicinity..I know, complete madness..

Has anyone seen one of these decals with year printed on it.. Funny, it says 72 Trans Am, when the 70 & 71 is same.
