I guess the best thing would be to send them directly to him. His address is on the last page of Smoke Signals under the directors.

I'm on the same page here, unfortunately. I'll need to know how else to send funds. Reading the original post kind of flattened me, as I just lost my lifetime best pal to colon cancer this New Years Eve. I've never met Mike, but back when I was a new member to this site, we had a few late night talks in the old chat room. In the course of our chats, he gave me some much needed insights into a few personal things I was going through at the time. I've thought of him as a friend ever since. Mike, you are a great man!

I knew you'd be along directly, Jim. You're a prince of a guy. We need to meet up some day so I can shake your hand.

Mikes address is in the first post of this thread. Mike worked from home, and that was the address he wanted to use for mail.

Thanks!

David posted Mikes address in the first post in the thread. Prayers are helpful, thoughts are appreciated, but there are immediate financial needs that must be dealt with. Thanks to everyone who cares enough to send something. Kurt

Just talked with Mike, he's been in the hospital since 2/28 and being self employed there has been no income. He's worried about paying the rent for his kids when he should be saving his energy for himself...

I'm in for a $100.00. Mike is a class act guy and a smart man..
I truely hope he does not accept just one opinon to battle this damn disease but understand his position. I was self empoyed too.
I never took just one doctors opinion on my Cancer ordeal.
I went to the Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philly and they are outstanding....will help with finances as well I understand. Treated me and my caretaker like royalty..I saw some miracles there.
I'm sure there are other centers but I used the CTCA..800-204-8900.
Pulling for you Mike..

Shocking news.
I'm sure everyone in the POCI and PY communities are pulling for Mike and will hopefully show their support to his family.

Default Phone call with Mike

I spoke to Mike earlier this morning and he is being discharged to home today with home care hospice. He is in a very positive frame of mind, quite at ease with his diagnosis (for now at least). He's on Dilaudid and waxing poetic as only Mike can; was telling his doctor how much he "appreciated everything he's done for him, and that he's made this easy for him (Mike)." Then Mike went on to his doctor "Hell, I've had so much fun in this life, no one would ever believe the things I've done and probably still ought to be in jail!" Even though I was on the phone 150 miles away, I felt kinda sorry for the reserved little Indian doctor that has spent his whole life sheltered behind books, manners, and protocols....he's never met a Mike before, let alone a Mike on Dilaudid. A well-practiced professional straight face can only take ya so far.

Afterward, when we finally had a chance to talk seriously..... In Mike's words "I want to go out like a steam engine, not a diesel, and when the Grim Reaper comes for me I'm going to tell him to move over because I want to drive the bus."

Mike's going home, and we didn't discuss chemo or radiation or any such thing. He's living his life on his terms, and seriously, could anyone here picture Mike living - and dying - any other way except 100% on his terms?

I'm making the trip to Portland next Saturday, and anyone who wants to ride along is welcome.

Don, it looks like you are coordinating this. $100 sent, thanks for spearheading this for Mike and his boys.

Who else can match it, do better or better yet- who can help in any way at all? Let's keep this going.
