Looks good Mark...

Been too cold to do much with my stuff. Been a tough winter here. Most of it (other than lack of snow) reminded me of winters I recall growin up with in Buffalo area. Wind chill temps have been most annoying. Quite unusual weather for mid TN.

The little radiator is a good idea IMO... I think it will do as you expect.
BTW, where did you source the intercoolers???

The intercoolers and the heat exchanger were E-Bay items. The Mini radiator was E-Bay also. I do a lot of E-bay. Most of it is good working/workable stuff.

Got the exhaust all tacked up and run. I have to shorten the outlet but I can't get it in my cut off saw at the angle I want. OR--should I just leave it the way it is???? OVERKILL!!!! Ha!!!!



Here I have one of the scoop/hat inlets cut to length and the aluminum V-clamp flanges in place. Just have to get them welded permanently in position. The 3 inch stub will weld right to the scoop. Here just one is done, the other is done but I did not take a pic. The straight black silicone connectors will be gone as I will have the junction under them welded.


Taking everything in Monday to get the welding finished.

Mark... Chop saw cant do everything lol... But a long sawz-all blade can get that pipe cut nice if you take some precaution... Wrap it with masking tape where you plan to cut... a little padding on the sawz-all guide will help keep things pretty too.

Hard to find the long metal specific blades but the long "demolition" type blades dont seem to get phased by most metal... You can get a fairly clean cut if you dont force it.

Also, a cut off wheel in a angle die grinder can cut that nice n clean... tape it up mark your cut line and work slow... be safe, work safe too...

Hey Bruce. Didn't think of my Sawz-all but it is an alternative. I have some cut off Stainless 4 inch pipe yet I can test it on. It's out there for all to see so I want a nice clean straight cut. My new (old used) band saw and new blades do not want to cut the stainless. However, it does seem to be running to fast for this cut. Maybe try slowing down the saw speed and see if that helps. It seemed as thought it was tying to melt the stainless instead of getting a bite and cutting. My old horizontal saw was slower and it seemed I could cut anything on it, as long as I could fit it in the limited opening.

Not being a turbo guy....are mufflers required for street driving.....or does turbos quiet it down..?

It's all in the eye (ear) of the beholder (Police). When I first got down here and drove my TA around I had a 4 inch electric cut out exhaust valve that dumped it right out of the passenger fender. The main exhaust split for the 5 inch (out of the turbo) to dual 3 inch and spin tech mufflers. The exhaust then went out over the axle and out the back. Even though the dump was open right outside the passenger window, there was very little difference in sound level when I opened or closed the valve. After that I never closed it. The only difference was the wastegate exhaust. The outlet for the wastegate went back into the exhaust system right before the open dump. Because it is straight out of the header pipe before the turbo it is louder when the wastegate opens, and you could hear it pretty well with the open dump valve. But under normal driving and even an inspection you would never hear it. My Cats wasetgates (50MM each) are in the 180 pipe right out of the header collector--


and it will dump out of its own 2 inch pipe. No matter where I tie into the short open exhaust outlet it will probably be a little loud, but only under boost again. If I run a full exhaust later I can run it back into the full system.

OK hot side and cold side piping all done and welded. Brackets for the ends of the dump pipes are the only thing left there.





Blow off valves in place too. All ready for the intercooler lines to run and installing the Mini radiator.

We've only put about 100 miles on the Catalina so far, so I'm not comfortable driving it up and back. We'll be trailering it to put in the show and make a few passes down the strip to see how it handles at high speed. I was tempted to make two trips and bring the Tempest, too, but I decided to concentrate on the Catalina. Ellen wants to learn to race the Catalina, make burnouts, etc. so we'll get a start on that.

Mark, Naturally I am following this build...to this point everything looks like it was done right the first time (not surprising, knowing your experience and attention to the details), but are there any bloopers or "aw-sh!t, I shouldda's" you can share ?

Hey Matt, thanks for looking in on me. Oh-Shyte moments galore. Every time I made a concept change, like from a single turbo to twins, "oh crap why'd I do that". Several times while cutting material and seeing it in my head first. Then trying to apply it to the saw or band saw in the right direction to get the correct cut etc. But over all it's gone pretty smooth. I think Janet's had more OH SHYTE moments than me, when she sees parts coming in. She thinks we have our own Brown delivery truck, LOL. Even my old mail man was a car guy and would stop and shoot the bull with me. He is now on a different route but still drops in after shifts to see what I'm doing.
