Hi Everyone
I made a similar post on gtoforum but wanted to introduce myself here too. I recently reacquired the 1967 GTO HT that my parents ordered new in 1966 from Stewart Pontiac in West Palm Beach Florida. They lived in Miami at the time and kept the car over a series of moves to Central Illinois, the Chicago area, and Western NY where they sold it in 1978 to buy a station wagon. I was still a young kid when they sold the car but remember it well from the days my mom drove me and my siblings around loose in the back seat. Wish they had saved it for me but such is life. The car was only driven for about 300 miles after they sold it and then it was put into barn storage for 23 years. Remarkably, considering the climate in IL & NY, it survived storage very well preserved and with minimal rust. In 2001, another muscle car enthusiast purchased it and moved it down to North Carolina where he restored it to its current condition and drove it for the last 13 years. The majority of it is still original including all the sheet metal (new exterior paint from the restore), the the power train, rear end, cordova top, soft ray glass, dash, interior, and chrome trim. The firewall, door jambs, and trunk paint are also factory original. Recently, the prior owner decided to track down the original owners. He was able to locate my folks through the paper trail and invited us to visit and drive the car. As luck would have it my house is less than an hour away but we had no idea the car survived. My mom was thrilled to see her old car and I was fortunate to take photos of her "maiden" drive after so many years. Although my parents are not yet aware of it, I stayed in touch with the owner and worked out a deal to buy it back earlier this year. I plan to surprise them when they come visit this summer. I've attached a few photos. It was ordered more for comfort and was optioned with a 400 4 bbl w/ Hurst his & hers, a/c, soft ray glass, pb, ps, map lights, speed minder, am/fm front & rear speaker, rear defogger, black cordova top, and deluxe wheel discs. Surprisingly, all the original paperwork including dealer invoice, order sheet, protect-o-plate, and manuals were also preserved over the series of intervening owners and are now in my possession. There's a few minor things I'd like to do with the car but mostly it's get in and go. My kids enjoy it too and my daughter is already claiming it when she gets old enough to drive. What an amazing story and a great car! Do a search for a member here that goes by '400 4spd.'..aka Steve Barr.... He's not TOO far from you.. (Greenville?) and is a '67 GTO guy. He also owns a restoration shop and is a heck of a nice guy.

Awesome story Andy! I am very close to you. I live in Charlotte up near Harrisburg and I have a 70 that I am working on. I am just getting involved in the GTO scene as my car was passed down to me by my father.
AW - where is the show in Monroe? That is really close to me. |

Thanks again all for the compliments and good cheer. I have to credit the last two owners for continuing to take such good care of it. And yeah I drive it. As frequently as I can. These cars are happiest cruising down the pavement. I also have old slide film of the car from back when it went into storage. If I can get it converted to digital I'll post more photos for those that are interested. First project is rebuilding the original carb.
Greg - thanks for the tip re: Steve B. I will look him up. A.W. - send me the details on the Monroe show and I'll try to make it. I'm in Union County and close by but May is a busy month for me at work.
