I'm getting ready to drop my new 428 in this weekend. I had decided to go with a set of long branch manifolds on my car. A local member had a brand new set for sale. I went to check them out and ended up buying a set of lightly used ceramic coated Doug's shorty headers from him instead.
Yesterday I mocked up the headers while the engine was still on the stand. My 428 has the 110 degree oil filter housing and it looks like the filter and header will be touching. I can rob the 90 degree housing off my 400 but I'm not sure that will make a difference. Has anyone else run into this issue? I'm thinking that a shorter filter would work but don't know if anyone makes one. Any suggestions/feedback is greatly appreciated.

You can do a search, lots of guys have had to use the shorter filter with headers. The strange thing is that I can fit a longer WIX filter with my Doug's round-port headers and a 90 degree housing. I did the same as you and mocked everything up while the engine was still on the stand. There is also plenty of room to remove the filter. Maybe the D-port headers are different.

71SR, I have d port edelbrock alum.heads, had to use a shorter Wix filter. Not home, but think its 51258 I think, going by memory. Just remember it will prob. Take half qt. less in oil capacity. Good luck,

After doing LOTS of research I ended using a smaller filter. I went with the NAPA/Wix #1042 which fits the GM LS motor. Its definitely smaller and after mocking up my headers again, I now have plenty of clearance.
I should be dropping my 428 in this afternoon after my sons baseball game. I'm hoping to get it in today, then spend most of tomorrow buttoning everything up to hopefully fire up next weekend.

Yes I did. I put up some pics in the lobby.
It went off pretty much without a hitch. Now I just have some buttoning up to do. I'm hoping to be able to fire it up this weekend.
