Had my procedure this morning, 3 polyps found and removed so now I am back on every 5 year schedule.

Went back for my follow up after the procedure today.
11 of the polyps were pre-cancerous, two were of the good variety. DR confirmed that I'm now on the once a year program until further evidence dictates a change. Better safe than sorry. |

My sister went last week and was clean so now I will be scheduling a visit this week to get it done hopefully in the next month.

Glad you 'guys 'are ok with your 'tests'. Oh Bob Dillion your are tuffer than me.There are 2 guys at work who didn't use anything. the nurse said its usually 'professional' people who want to get back to work.lets encourage everyone to get checked.

I had my first one 3 years ago. I had some nagging lower abdominal pain and my general practitioner suggested I get one, just to be safe. That turned out to be some dam good advise, they found an extremely aggressive pre-cancerous polyp. Did a follow-up one the next year and that turned out good. I have another appointment next month, I won't hesitate if he suggests another colonoscopy. I'm probably on the 2-3 year plan from hear on. Take heed and get it done guys.

I'll be 42 in July ... I will run it past my doc when I get the annual physical.
The balancing act is when, after the physical, there's no concrete evidence combined with being self-insured with a $4k deductible...

You guys are scarring the heck out of me.. Will be 48 in Nov. of this year......
My Doc said do it at 50. No family history of issues. Now that my insurance has changed (to the better for all) to ridiculous now deductibles, it just hurts the ole pocket book, but guess I should get it done sooner anyway.

On way home from mine now. 2 precancerous polyps removed. Dr said good thing had done. Would have turned bad in 2 more years. I'll be 48 in July.

Super Duty D's comment caused me to wonder....How many years does it take for a 'pre-cancerous' polyp to become cancerous?
Say for instance, a guy's doctor tells him at 48 to wait until he's 50 to get his first colonoscopy. Unbeknownst to him, he's had a pre-cancerous polyp or two since he was 45. Would 50 be too late?....or does it take 10~15 years to become full blown cancer? I have been told that all colon polyps will become pre-cancerous and then cancerous eventually...but how long is the process? Probably no foolproof answer....Just wondering.

It runs in my family so my first was at 40 had 3 polyps non cancerous so went on a 3 year schedule 4 different times and was clear so they cleared me for every 10 years, 10th year they found 3 this time 2 were precancerous, they suggest every5 years now but I will do as my DR orders, from what I'm told if your Dr orders it the cost is covered by most insurance at certain intervals but walk ins are roughly $1100.00, money well spent !!!
