assistance in putting some body pieces back on
I am currently in the process of putting some stuff back together and i was wondering if i could get some assistance. I will mention them all here as they come instead of starting a new thread for each one.
First off is the rear bumper. I pulled the old one off to sell it and now i have the 3 brackets there ready to go on since the new spoiler is coming in a few days. I took a look but i dont know for sure how they bolt on and last thing i want to do is do it wrong and completely have to redo everything. Next is the mirror. I put it back on with that metal piece then the plastic cover overtop. Now the mirror just flops back and there. Good one there I know. |

Darth, on the rear view mirror on the door, the plastic gasket goes on underneath
the metal bracket, not on top! On the rear bumper brackets, the two big brackets bolt on to the bumper with the protruding edges facing towards the outside of the car. the middle bracket is impossible to put on wrong......it can only be bolted on one way. |

The reason I ask this is that there look to be 3 ridges for the bracket bolts to go through, but they dont seem to line up no matter what I tried. Wish I didn't take these off when I took the bumper off. I assume I put these on and then the bumper afterward, and not attach these to the bumper while the bumper is off the car...correct? Sorry for the dumb questions |

The bumper brackets are not identical.....they are only flat on one side.....the
other side has 90 degree ribs on the edges to strengthen them. You should bolt them to the bumper then install the whole unit on the car. In the future, just unbolt the chrome bar from the bumper brackets to remove the bumper and leave the brackets on the car... that is much easier. The flat side of the brackets should face up to the outside of the frame rails. I don't understand what you are talking about on the mirror. There are only three parts, the mirror assy, the metal bracket and the plastic gasket under the metal bracket that faces up to the door skin. |

One more thing Darth.....when you tighten the nuts on the bumper bolts
that go through the chrome bumper bar, DO NOT make them very tight! You want just a little past finger tight on those or you will flex the bumper bar and crack the chrome! |

Also, I was trying to put my rear view mirror back up, but it doesn't seem to want to stay. The metal part is secure holding the mirror in, but the back clips on the plastic part keep popping off and the mirror goes all wobbly. I find it hard to believe that the plastic lip is all that holds the mirror on place once it slips into the two prongs on the back of the metal piece. Or am I missing a piece (or just being braindead). I really need to start taking some pictures before I take something apart

I read this whole thread and I was wondering when you guys were going to realize that you might be talking about two different mirrors.

Darth I've been taking a break since the front end suspension work and just watching along as others help out. But I'll take a shot at this one since something jumped out looking at your picture. The screw that holds the rear of the metal bracket to the frame is supposed to go through the plastic trim piece before it goes through the metal bracket. That way the plastic piece can't just pop off and everything should stay secure.

turn out that I was wrong...shocker.
It turns out it wasn't the plastic piece had to go through that screw hole on the metal piece as the holes don't line up, but what I was missing is the two little prongs on the front of the metal bracket that clip into the windshield frame. It is funny that I can take this thing on and off numerous times and not notice that until I post here and then problem solved. I love cars with a passion, but this proves I am stupid with them. Oh well, what can I say, I only have 1 more thing on my to-do list now. Whoever would have thought I would be saying that one day! Thanks again |

Glad to hear another problem solved.
I admit that I was just "giving it a shot" in this case. I haven't had my mirror off since I mounted it five years ago
