Ok, so with limited auto experience, and the other halfs approval, i bought a clapped out 68 Convertible off Gumtree last year. it was bought by a bloke who wanted to do a restoration with his son, though bought " sight unseen" from NC, he realised once seen it was to far gone for his skill set. So, im the bunny. Having only re sprayed my old mans Renault, and a full re build and re spray on a Subaru, ive got a way to go. My mechanical background will get me through i figure.

So i will post a few pics as i go, though i've been at it for about 10 months

now

Of course, comments and assistance along the way would be appreciated. Aside from the challenges the car gives me, my geographical disadvantage is a challenge also. Not many people over here know too much about these cars. And parts are literally non existant.

Glad to have a little space and a fork lift in my shop. I knocked up the braces, just in case of any movement, it seemed the right thing to do.

Those are the slickest door opening braces I've ever seen. Super strong, and not welded to the car. If they're any indication of your mechanical prowess, no worries!! Keep the pics coming, too.

Ok, so here we are at the the blasting joint. They did a great job, no warping or distortion. Not cheap, but it saved a hell of a lot of time. And there's no where left for the rust to hide. !

Back at my workshop now, its been coated in a clear protective coating, that is supposed to be good for 12 months. But i live on the coast, and even tin foil rusts here. So it will have a good coat of etch primer soon.

First job was the floor, it had been partially done before. but not particularly well.

So i spent a day sand blasting the supports, got to get a better air supply arrrggh.!

All cleaned up and ready for primer. now, its easy to read through these while your havin a beer and say sweet! but that floor took the better part of 6 full days. I'd probably be a bit faster now, but hey it was my first task.

What fun , you are going well .
Did you find the car here in Aus ? Watch out for the rust where the roof screws into the seal near the boot ( Trunk ) I used s/steel nut inserts with s/steel bolts and nuts to stop the rust happening again.
Ok the plans are ? Colour ? engine ? wheels etc timeframe ?
