The technology featured is just incredible.......amazing how far this industry has come since Hughes's Tool Co (Drill Bits) was the big thing going in TX.

Are their a few countries that tend to dominate a certain segment of the industry like the semi submersible (sea) platforms, as example?

* Made me think of the underwater video of the rig with a swordfish stuck head on, and robotic arm they maneuvered then used to pull him free, remember that one?;

Not sure of current status of any particular segment dominated by single country now. I would have guessed China. However, one of the most impressive displays to me was FMC's FLNG (Floating Liquid Natural Gas Platform) Loading Arm and its' Emergency Quick Release Mechanism demonstration. Interesting this heavy industry mechanism is manufactured in France.

This http://www.fmctechnologies.com/en/Lo...ngSystems.aspx offshore loading system is used between two floating vessels on the open ocean seas, with typically 6 to 8 simultaneously connected Loading Arms.

*Cool video! Think of rescuing that swordfish only to have it immediately re-wedge itself in the same spot! Those ROVs in person (like used to remove swordfish from subsea rig tree) can be tiny like a briefcase to mini-bus in size.

Subsea 7 brought its unique suite of riser concepts and related subsea infrastructure to life at OTC Houston 2014 – and offered the industry a glimpse into the future of these novel technological solutions.
