The link "claims" that "no one is buying new cars" than corrects it self and says they are but "not at on the scale they once were".

Earth to the author (at least here in the U.S)...

In 2007 - U.S. auto sales totaled just over 16 million units. We all know what happened in 2008 when sales plummeted by nearly 3 million units. In 2009 sales fell by almost another 3 million units.

However - since 2009 - sales have increase each year by significant margins. In 2013 - sales surpassed what was sold in 2007 and 2006.

In 2014 - sales are up over 2013.

Now I am not familar with the overall worldwide car sales. But he does alude to the problem in the U.S. also - which is patently false.

So I am going to theorize that this is just his conspiracy theory....

Shipping lots and railheads often look like that, just as a result of getting vehicles aligned and loaded onto the appropriate rail car.

I have pictures of me in one of the DT&I rail yards in 1964 with stacks and stacks of Ford frames just sitting there waiting to be shipped to a factory. Agreed, common practice.

My Dad hauled Ramblers (worked for KAT) out of Kenosha WI., from 1953 to 1973ish. Many timers we would go to the loading area when Dad was loading to give him money or food for the trip. The loading area was adjacent to the new car parking area and there would be thousands of Ramblers all waiting to be hauled out. Especially the ones going to the railroad because they would haul so many at a time, versusu 5-6 or 7 cars per transport depending on what time frame (what year). That was the mid to late '70's when Rambler sales were still good.

The author claimed that a manufacturer who emptied a lot must have "recycled the new cars".
Car manufacturers report inventory levels (days of inventory) and nothing seems unreasonable except for a few slow-selling models.

In the Chicago area there used to be a huge lot of new Toyotas for the Chicago market. They were simply waiting for a local company to install the AC systems. Back in the 80's Japan shipped them here without since AC was uncommon in Japan's mild climate.

If they made cooler/cheaper cars I would bet there would be less in the stockpile. When I look at the pics all I see are a parking lot of bland cars in bland colors.

That image of the Nissan track track made me chuckle. If they still made a real Skyline that was affordable and fast they would sell. The only cool thing they make now is the 370z, everything else is butt ugly and are cheap throwaways.

I worked on the docks for 13 years down Philly, Jersey and Delaware. They would stock all those cars like that so they could be shipped. That way when the ship comes in, they would take vans full of guys to the lots to drive the cars onto the ship, all day long. I was on a giant ship back in the 80's that was going to China. They loaded 7000 Chevy Citations on it. They were all the same, basic cars with stick shifts. The were going to become taxi's. The ship was 14 levels.
