I think oldgoat67 that I spent about $ 400.00 before I got mine to cool down. When if I'd have looked at the real problem I could have fixed it with about $ 15.00 for the water pump gaskets. But we live & learn. After all it's for our babies & if we can't spend money on that we'd find ways to spend it on them in a different way.

Looks like some Michigan folk here this coming Tuesday the 20th between 5 and 8pm there is a car show and get together at Fracano's Pizza on Alpine ave in Grand Rapids and it's every Tue at 5 to 8pm Free entry 50 50 DJ and real good pie.

I've posted this a few times over the past months about our cruise in. We are in Niles MI. thats the southwestern part of MI. Were right on the MI-IN line. We have a cruise in on wed. nights from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. We have an average of 150 - 200 cars . We close down main street from 5th st. to 2nd street & 2 blocks of 3rd street . We have free food , prize drawings (free) & either a DJ or live music all night long. It's all free & it starts the 2nd week of June & goes to the last week of Aug. Each wed. we honor different car makes & have trophies for all the normal class's. It all Free & a great time. Our main street is open all through the cruise -in with all the stores & restaurants open too. One of the local rest/bars has a burger night on wed. where the burges are only $ 3.50 which gets you a big burger, fries, coleslaw & a drink for that price too. If any one would need directions , just ask & I'll help. But It really easy to find, Just look up Niles MI on the map or goggle it , come on & join the fun on wed night in Niles MI. Lots of cars & friendly car people to talk to & make lots of friends. Come join us.

A big yes, we are right on the MI. IN line . The IN. line is also the home of Notre Dame which is also South Bend IN. So yes there are LOTS of hotels just a few miles from our great big little city. We also have 5 of our own including a Holiday Inn express about 1 mile from downtown too. It's new only 2 years old. Plus the other 4 which are also within just a few miles from downtown. Come see us we have a great time every wed. night. In fact we only got a little rain on all of our wed's last year so even the big guy likes us.

Stamped impeller.

Set original engine unmolested divider plate on, .280 gap.

So much for that.

Welcome - glad you are aboard.

There are a few of us that have taken the time to test cast and stamped impellers and found absolutely no difference in cooling if both are gapped the same from the divider plate. While such a statement is just about heresy in this thread, it is what it is. :

Charles was one of the first to know about the problem and come up with a solution, although Charles told me there was one other guy that had suspicions about the relationship with the backing plate and impellor. I forget his name..

Cordone was shaving their impellors on all their rebuilt pumps, so there was no need to worry about all the variances in the backing plates. I searched and bought over a dozen plates at different locations and was amazed how much variation there was from the original backing plate. I later picked the best one for my 67 GTO and sent all the others to Charles.

I got on board late, but decided to call Cordone about the problem, and got some phone numbers of their engineers, and, they seemed interested, but said they would do nothing.

After a call to Charles, and a posting with their number on this site, plus Gary going by, and Charles and Gary having a spiritual talk with the Cordone Engineers and a VP. They capitulated, and sent me a redone pump with no shaved impellors, and said they would have another version and number coming out.

I took an original plate with the newer pump they sent, and the rest is history. Now the question is whether Cordone is still building them right!!!??

Dan, when did Cardone send you the pump and say they had another version coming out?

I've been calling Cardone and my contact isn't answering his phone. No idea what's going on as he said he'd look into the part number for the updated and correct 8 bolt pump.... back in March. If you still have their number give them a call and see what you can find out. PM me your results, or call Charles and me and we can have a conference call.

So has Cardone recalled all the incorrectly built pumps and stamped impeller pumps from Ames, and Performance Years, so that at this time when I place an order from either company I'm going to get a cast impeller pump installed to the correct height?

Nope. Seems they completely dropped the ball!

So has all this come to fruition? I ordered a Cardone pump from my local Delco place and -surprise- it showed up with a stamped impeller.

I had an overheating issue with my 62 and the 4 bolt water pump in it. Saw an ad from Flowkooler about a new CNC'd impeller they claimed would improve flow and bring temps down, so I checked it out. Sent them an old pump I had and they cleaned/blasted it, then installed their new impeller. Really did a fine job bringing the temps down in my case. They also offer water pumps for the 8 & 11 bolt styles. Another interesting thing is they make mention of the divider plate spacing for the 8 & 11 bolt pumps. I was impressed with how well it worked for my application, so I thought I'd mention it here. Could be worth looking into for other folks here. I've finally gotten my temps where they need to be in all driving conditions. It wasn't cheap, but I sure do enjoy driving and not worrying about the temp gauge any longer. Be sure to check through all the offerings. The link is only part of them.
