Har, har, har.....You're afraid I won't drive it and Alvin is afraid I'll rip it in half. You're both probably right. None of us drive these cars as much as we would like, and that holds true for me most certainly. However, when I do drive them I make sure I get my money's worth....
The core support is now coming along nicely. I had a damn mess yesterday when the other primers reacted. The duplicolor is doing great and I have wet sanded it this morning and applied two more coats. I think one more wet sanding and it's ready for color. Heading out to see American Sniper with the child bride and mini me, but hopefully I can get back to it late this afternoon. We'll see.

All right, two coats of color on the core and it looks good. This is has been more trouble than it should have been. At some point someone sprayed the top of the core, radiator shroud, air intake ducting, etc, with high gloss clear. It was hard to sand off, and I am still working on getting the radiator shroud cleaned up. It's probably what caused the primer problem on the core. You can kind of see the original and correct gloss in the before picture under the area where the shroud overlaps the core and under the two spots where the front support brackets have been removed. I'm going to let these two coats harden and then wet sand before doing the final coat. I used OER low gloss black and while I love this paint because it has high solids and a very low tendency to run, it takes a long time to harden.

Thanks Tod. Every time I see your car I fall in love with it again. It's probably second on my list after the black and red '69 that Glasgo built. Everything is right with your car - color, stance, wheels.... Boss and Alvin - Yeah we've got project expansion down here at Mission Creep Motors. Although I doubt we'll end up with a blower snaking out of the hood, me and MPD are about to put some serious horsepower uder the screaming chicken while maintaining a pure stock appearance. The short block arriverd at the YRC terminal today and Dave is on his own to retrieve it and bring it home. I'm headed to kill some birds in Georgia and then a business trip to Phoenix.... |

The motor is in the house. Well, the short block anyway and a bunch of pieces and parts. MPD got it picked up from YRC this morning and its on the stand now. Going to have to start moving this project along.

Bob, Thxs for your continued sense of humor & keeping us posted.
Please don't sweat the "correct" engine paint color too much and get that "new bullet loaded in the chamber" |

Bob - are you going to test run the assembled bullet like this http://youtu.be/lFZVDfYXNCM prior to install?

I would love to be able to, but I don't know of any dyno or test stand in Charleston, WV. Maybe someone can recommend one somewhere in the southern/central Ohio area that is fairly close. Columbus is only 2.5 hours away.

Good way to make sure that new bullet doesn't puke out or leak something nasty into your newly detailed engine bay. ![]() Here's a easy how-to wood engine run stand that may be quick, cheap, and not distract your progress on the Y88 reassembly http://toolmonger.com/2008/12/12/sho...-engine-stand/ |

There was a guy on 301 garage reproducing them but apparently they aren't available from him anymore. Not sure where to source them now

This is just right on, so many, and some recently posted ebay auctions just turn my stomach with the amount of work they would require. I dislike a product called "Engine shine" as well, and ALL used car dealers should be BANNED from using it ! Love the work on the '78, Grats to you and MPD Bob... Summer will come.. sometime.. well maybe.. in a few months if Im lucky.. Still have a few Tons of Coal though
