Default Help!Need info on Reverberator

I have a 1969 GTO factory reverb unit I installed in my 1969 GTO Judge with the original dash switch and was wondering to get this to work do I need special speakers also? Also I have the box that mounts under the dash and was wondering if there was also another unit under the rear deck by the rear speakers?Another thing Im wondering is that this wont probably work with a factory AM-FM sterio radio and do I have to get a a factory AM-FM radio that isnt sterio?I dont really know anything about these. My father ordered a 1967 Grand Prix with one of these and it was awesome the way it sounded and I liked it better than sterio because it kinda echoed but made a noise from the speaker or the unit in the trunk when you hit a bump or went over railroad tracks.Any info would be much appreciated. When I do turn it on you can hear it click so the unit must work but Im sure it probably wont work with a sterio radio or not very good. Thanks

Neat option. First off it was not available with either the stereo radio or the 8track player or the regular rear speaker option (sepraphonic).

All you need in back is the regular 10ohm speaker also used with the other sound options, no other equipment was needed in back.

The way it worked is that the radio signal for the rear speaker was routed to the unit above the glovebox (same housing and mounting bracket as the stereo multiplex unit) where it rain through a coil that delayed the signal slightly. The result was a delay that created a echo effect that simulated stereo sound.

Bumps were a problem and the vebraphonic effect was annoying for news or talk shows etc but with the switch you could shut it off.

Thanks for the info.i do have a 10 ohm speaker in dash and 2- 10 ohm speakers in rear.I wonder if it was only suppose to be one speaker in rear to work right?I need to get a non sterio radio and see if it works right.I do have it hooked to rear speakers.

Is it on the PHS? The wiring harness of the 8 track would have to be cut up to wire it in and even then I don't think it would work.

AM or AM/FM non stereo radios came with one speaker only in front. If a regular or vebraphonic speaker option was ordered you would get a single rear speaker. Same with stereo radio or 8 track.

I don't know if a reverb will work properly with two speakers, I would think so beacause GP's and fullsize had two rear speakers with stereo or 8 track options.

Reverb was not factory available with either stereo radio or 8 track, the wiring harnesses were not compatible. The article you refer to is from the book original GTO and the photo in question is of a car in which the owner added all kinds of options after the fact.

A lot of 69 GTO fans have the 3 switch bug! They want all three dash accessory switches but any car with AC, 8 track or stereo radio can only have two switches.

what 3 switch bug deal are you talking about?
My 69 GTO has wipers on the left and on the right- rear defrog and reverb.
I have am radio and 8 track.
My reverb is mounted behind the glove box and all of the mounting looks original.
Was it a dealer installed item???
My build sheet does say Radio Stereo and 8 track, and all of the rocker switches are factory looking and no extra holes drilled into the dash.

By the bug I meant that a lot of people wanted to see all three switches left (power antenna), center (power top, rear defogger or power tailgate window) and right (reverb or power-flow ventilation).

Your reverb must of been added by the dealer or an owner at some point. Having a stereo radio and a reverb had an extra reason why it was not available, the multiplex for the stereo and the reverb unit both mounted in the same location (they actually used the same mounting bracket.

My LeMans was the opposite of yours, it was built with mono am-fm and reverb but the dealer put in a 8 track, they left the reverb switch and the unit but it was no longer connected to anything.

would the dash have open or switch deleet places on the dash? Like a radio deleet or my car also had in the dash next to the speedo pod a Clock/Tac deleet pod. I put a clock in that spot.

The wood panel had no sign of where the switches went, the metal dash frame had the three openings cut. When a dealer added an option he had a special die cutter, he drilled a starter hole and then used a two sided cutter that when the bolt on it was tightened it wood cut the wood grain panel neatly. 70-72 is similar but they only had two possible positions since the power antenna option was dropped.

I had a 69 years ago, that had reverb. But the unit was mounted in the trunk, and the switch was a round rotary type switch.

Dealer installed?
