Houston, we have a problem! My A/C compressor is throwing oil out the front of it. I drove it for the first time with A/C last Saturday and when I opened the hood on Monday I noticed an oil streak on the hood pad and passenger side inner fender. I talked to the shop that charged my system and the owner asked me if the compressor was new. I told him it was but had been bought about a year ago. He said to try running it and see if it would seal. I drove it yesterday and there was fresh oil under the hood when I looked. I am thinking I need to change the compressor. I work for the parts store where I bought it and it has a lifetime warranty so it shouldn't cost me much. I will have to have the system vacuumed and recharged
Other than that everything else seems to be working. Y'all have a good one.

I have been doing some household chores all last week so I haven't done anything to the car. My steering wheel is being redone and I am waiting on a set of OE valve covers to arrive so I can replace the repros that the chrome came off of.
When the covers get here I will have the A/C system vacuumed down and change the covers out when I take the bad compressor off.
I hope it won't take too long to get my steering wheel back. Once all of this is done I can't think of anything else that has to be completed so I may call the car officially finished.

Wasn't that the repop you bought that had an issue?

The reason I asked is that I have a original wood wheel that I'd like to have a really nice refinish job on. Just curious.

My wheel is an original and was in very poor condition. The restoration job that PY did on it was beautiful. I think the problem may have been in the finish. I don't know much about the process but I don't think there was enough hardener used. Not long after i got the wheel back I noticed it seemed a little tacky in places. Then the finish started wearing off and the wheel got stickier. Again, I don't know what process is used so I may be off base with my analysis.
PY is standing behind their work and hopefully when I get the wheel back it will be even better than before. I was very pleased with the original job and wish it didn't have this problem.

Thanks Phil. You triggered my memory on this and now I remember you posting about it. Im sure it will be all good when you get it back.

Mine is original and the driver wore many rings which caused big scrapes on the top of the wheel. Its not in the car and Im using a Grant wood wheel right now.

Well, besides pressure washing my house, shop and driveway, sanding and priming all the bare spots on the windows I did find time to change out the passenger side valve cover and A/C compressor. I was too dog gone tired to change the drivers side even though I knew it would only take about ten minutes to do it.

I wanted to get the passenger side done so I could return the bad compressor tomorrow and get my money back. I plan on getting the A/C system recharged this week.

Still haven't got around to changing out the driver's side valve cover! My wife decided to let me buy her a new refrigerator to go with the new counter top she is having installed. I also get to tear out the old counter top and put in a tile back splash on the new one. I sure am lucky to have a loving wife ain''t I?
I did get out to the shop early this morning, before she woke up and straighten some of my mess up. At one time I had a 57 Chevy station wagon and my 65 GTnO side by side in the shop. Now, I have to suck my gut in to get around the 67! And, no, I haven't put that much weight on!

I have been very busy this week with re-modeling the kitchen so I haven't had a chance to do anything to the car other than drive it! I am waiting on my steering wheel and I still have to change the driver's side valve cover and have the A/C recharged. Other than that the car is as finished as I can get it. I know I will have issues to deal with down the road but that is part of owning an old car.

I finally got the driver's side valve cover changed out. Now, I have to get the car to the shop and have the A/C recharged. Then, all I need is to get my steering wheel back and I will be as done as I can be!

Still waiting on my wood wheel. It has been almost 8 weeks now since I returned it to PY. I called last Tuesday and was basically told that they don't know when it will be done. The first time I sent it in it only took 6 weeks. I just hope everything is OK and I will get my original wheel back.

Well, I got the A/C recharged and it didn't cost me a dime. I also swapped out the fan speed control switch and now have high speed. I don't know if anyone here has done that swap but if I have to do it again I will pay someone! I thought it would be a simple task, just reach up under the dash, unplug and unbolt the old one then reverse the procedure for the new one. Then I tried to reach up under the dash only to find that the A/C ducting was in the way.
Well, just remove the radio and reach it that way except that the radio won't move far enough again due to the A/C. Now, I get creative. I pulled the ashtray and it's mounting bracket and am finally able to get my fingers on the switch.
By reaching up through the ashtray opening with one hand and through the radio hole with the other I am finally able to get a 1/4" wrench on the two small bolts that hold the switch on. Of course, when I removed them they both immediately disappeared! They must have disintegrated because I still haven't found them!
Not to worry, just get the ones out of the other control head. The Gods smiled on me briefly and I was able to get the bottom bolt back in. I use the term bolt loosely as these things are about 5/16" long.
Then on to the top one. Remember, I am doing this blind with my hands stuck through holes in the dash. Long story short it took me over an hour to get that little sucker in! and, not before loosing it one time. Luckily there were more bolts the same size in other parts of the spare control head. I will probably find them the next time I change the oil! Anyway, I finally got everything back together and working.
While I was looking for the spare control head I found a small box that had the new matching trunk, console and glove box locks in it so I changed them out.
I still haven't heard anything on my steering wheel. Even if I had it I am not in any shape to replace it. I was in a wreck last Wednesday and am having an issue with pain in my back and legs. Hopefully it will clear up in a few days and I'll be good to go.
I'll update totals next week.

Sounds like mt fiasco with replacing the fuel pump yesterday in that what one would think would take 30 minutes to do took me a little over 3 hours. I hope you get to feeling better, sorry to here about the wreck.

Didn't do anything this week other than get a couple short work days in. I am still waiting on my steering wheel. I am going to cut this short and go get back in my recliner. My back and legs are giving me a fit.

Phil-

Can you post a few pics when you get your wheel back? I am interested in having mine re-colored and it looks like I might have to send it in somewhere to have it done. Mine it in great shape, it just has all stain worn off. It is a light tan or a sand color.
