Just an FYI. 71 455 HO blocks are confusing...

Spread of 1 to 10 months cast vs. build dates are not uncommon.

There is a 70 cast on very early 1971 (9799140) block. A short time later they utilized the 483677 block followed by the 485428 that carried through 1972.

My car is an 08D and the block is H280. The vin looks factory and the WC and also the casting of 483677. My head is also casted 081. Nice car you have.

Darren that is a really early casting date! I recently picked up a complete WS engine with what I thought was the earliest vin I had seen so far Baltimore plant vin B150xxx. Casting date was L028. But your vin is 12,000 units later than mine and the block is almost 3 1/2 months earlier. Unusual for sure!

Some of these are all over the place. My vin is 4,000 later than the B150xxx with an earlier block.

My Feb 20 dated (PHS) Baltimore Judge has a "born with" motor (WS) that has a L128 date.

I had a Baltimore RAIII Auto that was built 03B with a L198 block.
Also have a Baltimore RAIII 4spd Judge that is 03B with a K068 block, and '941 dist.

So ideally, I would think you "Hxx8" block would be too early for your 03A car. Great find and correct enough for me though.

I agree it is probably to early but seeing as how the ser number stamped on it is 500 higher
than mine I think it will be close enough anyway the original engine is long gone they didn't check the antifreeze in 1975 and cracked the block and sent the engine to the scrap yard and were going to turn the rest of the car into a stock car but didn't get around to it and then I picked it up and restored it with a 72 455ho and have been looking for a correct engine ever since

I do notice that if it is a 1968 cast block it had 6 digit EUN, except for 1 Dec 1968 cast block.

Not much later - I have an J dated YS with a 7 digit EUN. October or earlier in 69 model year.
