Default Transmission Suggestions

I was looking at this one TCI-211305 but it says not recommended for supercharged cars. I am in the middle of a turbo build. ANY good suggestions. I am down to buy or rebuild my TH400 to handle up to 750 or so for street fun and cruising. I am open to opinions. Thanks in advance.

I ran a T400 with a PTC converter for a bunch of years and it worked great, I have a 4l80 now and love it. I already had a mid plate so the adapter was only a matter of welding some nuts to the mid plate, and countersinking two bolts.

4L80e, good converter, good controller. Jake was helpful to me when I went there.

Another vote for Jake. T400 or 4L80 he's the man!

Just tried(Friday morning) to put a convertor in a Mopar 727 "Super Street Fighter" from TCI. Its new, never used, been in the crate well over a year... Convertor wouldnt engage pump... look inside and pump tangs are next to each other not across from each other. They dont want to know the guy who bought it... so Monday I'll tear it down and see what else lost the fight. Fortunately have a decent core for parts, but I shouldnt need to use them on a rebuilt trans... No way was there enough force applied to do that. Not my 1st time with a Mopar transmission...converor installs no different than a GM.

I vote for Rossler with your trans work and PTC with a stout converter...

Interesting thoughts. How bulletproof does a trans need to be for a turbo setup? Going to the track I always see giant torque monster Poncho's launching violently. Then I will see a small block turbo car launch softly, and then end up like it got shot off a Navy carrier catapult after 60'. Seems like a different game if the launch is subdued.

You can get a turbo car to launch violently if you spool up the turbos before launch, heat built up in this spooling process can be hard on the trans. For strength and value for money you can't beat a TH400 in my opinion.

My 4L80E is on the way back from CK, he and Jake are friends to my understanding, and either in my book is a good source for a 4L80E or any other trans. I beat that 4L80E, never a hiccup, and customer service is excellent. Will go back to them for a 4L80E for the 442 as well.

$2k for a base model that handles like 650/650+, then whatever upgrades you need, all the way past 1200/1200. No converter, no controller. If you're doing EFI, pick one that has the controller built in, or get a separate controller. Converters, it depends, but, if you want to do full throttle lockups, not cheap. Chris will go over the options.

Keep in mind you need either a cable-x box, a tailshaft housing for a mech speedo, or an electronic speedo.

My setup is a bit on the stout side for a 4L80E. So were using one of the new Reid Racing T-400 cases and the beefed Gear Vendors bolt on OD. Jake will get the Coan parts and do the build.

Yes it is! I don't think a lockup converter can handle 2500+ hp/tq! Heh-heh!
