This 2nd pic, is my battery. I sent it out, probably posted. It was sent to me from friend, notice it has french writing. It has a date stamp of 1978, came out of 79 vette from Quebec. Car had 8k miles, wouldn't charge, guy saved it since 1983.
It's just the freedom. I have called around a lot on this, & I came out 79 or 80, some tell me 81.
I talked with antique battery manufacturer, no plans yet to do a freedom. He said, $250, he would take mine apart and redo, he says it will last at least 6yrs...

Paging Bob: Our '78 W72 motor front passenger side of engine had a bright yellow paint splotch on top of the factory blue engine paint, and a black ink "OK-2" inspection stamped on the yellow paint.

A while back, there was a PYr who made up several diff stamps and was selling them for Resto use.

Did your motor have the same?

Ours was painted over during a previous detailing...picture taken before w 35mm analog camera, not able to lay hands on the exact photo...

However, ours looked very similar to the one show on page one below - EXCEPT - ours had the previously mentioned "yellow paint splotch" between Pontiac engine blue painted passenger head and the stamp as shown below HERE

Note: refer to same T/A engine w OK-2 stamp image on page 169 in Gary Witzenburg's FIREBIRD!

Edit: FWIW referring to our Van Nuys built '78 W72 Stick. What box(s) on build sheet will tell build date?

Here's the photo (below) w the OK-2 stamp similar to that on ours...

To date, no original T/A 6.6 Firebirds have been documented with block cast dates later than November 1977. My research continues with the casting dates, but if this trend remains consistent, then it appears that all 400-cid blocks (both 500557 and XX481988) used for the W72 Performance Package were only produced through November 1977. Food for thought: Wondering out loud if the Norwood vs. Van Nuys W72 engines were inspected and/or stamped differently?

All 1977-79 Firebirds produced with the T/A 6.6 engine option list UPC code W72 PERF PACKAGE (NORWOOD, OH) or W72 PERFORM PKG (VAN NUYS, CA) on the factory build sheet. Referenced from Page 2

I've read of some reproduced for 1977 Pontiac motor Can Ams by Rick aka 77 Canamman personal use...unable to find a link right now, but they were dead-on appearance as I recall. Perhaps he can chime in.

I just, got a 78 marti, another van nuys, from Nevada.. WS6 W72... for my oldest, just turned 15 last month...

I would assume because they were built at the Pontiac Engine Assembly Plant, they would be the same.

Agree, but never say never right? Curious to know if all W72's were "OK-2" inspected & stamped? Anyone know for sure?

decals made which are sealed on both sides in clear plastic. I silicone them on the

The sticker kit has them all in, YA, YU, 403 and W72. I traded a guy fir a YU sticker. The 78 GM manual gas a page on the valve cover decals.

My 79W72 Formula appears to have had a label affixed to the end of the passenger valve cover. Does anyone know what Sticker might have been there originally? You can kind of see the outline of where it was in these two pictures:
