SAGE was Semi-Automatic Ground Environment, the missile silos at Rattlesnake Mt. were linked to the the SAGE system,

All automated with back scatter radar now. Only 1 or maybe 2 civilian maintenance personnel now. Up to 30 in the '80's.

I remember going with our neighbor to the local Plymouth dealer to look at an AAR sitting in the showroom. It was Orange/black. It had the exhaust exiting in front of the back tires which I thought was really cool. I was about 9 or 10 years old then.

Growing up in the Detroit area, there was a Pontiac dealer called Art Moran Pontiac, and across the street, and a little ways down, was Roger Penske Chevrolet (they always had an Indy 500 car in the showroom), and next door was a Chrysler-Plymouth dealer. I remember seeing a few Superbirds sitting on the lot back then, and the dealership had a frontage road that ran next to the highway that ran for a long way, then had a turnaround at the end. They used it for acceleration tests.

This is a photo of a Dodge dealership that Mopar fans may know. I always liked the 1970-1971 Cuda and Challengers, along with the Dodge Daytonas and Plymouth Superbirds for being the most over-the-top cars of the era.

This was my first car, I was 14. That's me in the drivers seat. 1950 Merc, flathead V8, 3 on the tree w/overdrive. It never ran but i did learn things from messing with it. I bought it for $50 and sold it about 2 years later for $300. The guy that bought it was going to chop and channel it to match his 2 door 50 Merc.

The 1973 340 Duster was the second thing that i loved about my future wife. The first were 2 objects on her chest!! That pic was in the summer of 1977.



the Vette is a 68 327 4 spd but had from what i hear is a very rare Tobacco interior. It was her B-I-L's.

Cool pics Hunter98TA! Love the Duster! I see many photos of girls sitting on cars back in the day, and I often wonder how many times the rivets on their jeans scratched the heck out the paint.

Didn't happen at my house.

My (then future) wife set a McDonalds cup on top of the Chevelle on our first date. I yelled at her and she was abit taken aback. She's never forgotten it and it still comes up on occasion. Seems to have turned out ok, though, since that was 36 years ago.

I was probably 40 before I realized you could touch the exterior of a car with your bare hand and not cause it to crumple into a pile of paint chips. Probably about the same time I realized I could touch the thermostat and get away with it.

An older lady bought gas where I worked (1974, I was a sophmore in HS). Nice car. Were the lesser Challengers/Cuda's badged w/ the same names??? Seems underwhelming to call one w/ a 318 the same, which is what she drove, still a cool car!

I was shocked she did that. It was her pride and joy. There was not a nick or scratch on it. She had the "340" decals but never put them on. She washed it every other day and scrubbed the tires so much she wore the white letters off before the tread!!! It did have a problem that at the time we could never correct. It lost too much vacuum at low RPM and she would lose the PB and it would stall.

Shoot, my girl(now my wife) and i used to blanket the hood and windshield(68 FB) and use pillows at the drive in theater.
Anytime guys where over, we usually ended up use'n our cars as a lean to and beer holder.
Did know a couple guys that went nuts any time someone even touched their car.
Muscle cars where just a cool form of transport back then.
Senior yr of H.S.(1978) and after, our core group had 2-68 FB's(350 and 455 "mine"), 68-440(4spd M/T) and 69-383/383 Roadrunner, 73-350 FB Esprit, 70-350/350 Camaro SS. 67-289 Mustang, 73-340/360 Duster, 67-327(3spd M/T) Chevelle, 68 Camaro 327/350 4spd.
The double engine listings are for replacements.
We never thought to take pic's back then...
