Sorry for your loss goat. Lots of great words of wisdom in this thread. Take a deep breath and hang in there. This Christmas Eve will be 10 years for my Dad.

Sorry for your loss. I lost my dad last year. He was a wealth of engineering knowledge.

And a word to those that still have their parents. Keep your friends close... but keep your family even closer. You get no second chance once they're gone.
This says it all right here. So sorry for your loss and prayers to you and your family!

Sorry for your loss. I'm waiting for the call informing me that my dad is gone. Any day, now. This sucks.

The final days are very hard as well. Sorry to hear you are going through that. If he can still communicate, now is the time to repeatedly tell him how much he means to you. We can never say it too much to the Mothers and Fathers that really cared and sacrificed over the years for us.

Although a fairly ordinary (for a Pontiac anyways) car, my Dad loved his '76 Ventura hatchback. Stone reliable, sporty handling transportation that him and my Mom bought brand new with 23 miles on it (it was a demonstrator). He used it in his final years to go fishing (his favorite pastime). It is road worn, and has surface rust from sitting idle for the last 4 years (since my mom passed). I have already got the process going to fix it up as a "tribute" to my Dad. Not a collectible, but he loved it almost as much as I love my wagon. Did most of the interior before he passed, I will move forward with mechanical and bodywork. I need something to keep myself occupied. He would not want me to sell it, and I will never bring myself to do it.

My condolences to you for the loss of your father. If you ever need a place to spray that Ventura of his, let me know.

May take you up on that being you seem pretty close by. I will get it in good mechanical shape and let you know. Thanks for the offer.

Went in because he couldn't stand up any more due to severe Gout in the RH knee. Everything just kept getting worse, and I had to go over there 3 times a day to light 'fires" under some of the staff to care for his needs. It ended on November 16th at 11:25 AM EST with me and my brother sitting there. He opened his eyes and smiled a little bit, and then he was gone. I was glad I was there. Bittersweet. He had became inactive since my Mom passed away due to cancer in 2010, and he missed her dearly. Wasn't easy tending to his needs over the past 4 years, but I have no regrets. They were there for me when I was a child, and I think it is our duty to be there for them when they get to where they can't function on their own. He had COPD and Diabetes for years. In the end he had Sepsis, Pulmonary embolism, and Pneumonia that did him in. I could not even communicate with him the last two weeks he was alive, due to him being very confused. The last 24 hrs, he was resting more peacefully than I had seen him in years. Very heartbreaking to loose both your parents but to be cliche' ,his suffering his over.
My dad died nearly 30 years ago (age 54). I can't imagine him going through several health problems like this. Dad hated getting older. I watch an uncle slowly die from 1998-2004. It isn't easy, but you did it. Keep the good memories and forget the bad.

Thanks again fellas. I was "caregiver" for him the last few years as well, so it really feels "empty" around here during Christmastime.
