Rear main sizes were 2.623" in 58/59, while the later small journal blocks were 3" main.
It would be like putting a 400" crank in a 455 block. The mains would need to be spaced different.

I will stick with my early 400 Block, splayed caps, E-Heads, EFI, Twin Turbos, in a 64 Chassis car. 4.161" bore, 3.5" stroke Carrillo Rods, Wiseco Pistons, Turbonetics Turbos.
380 cubic inches, 8000 rpm all day long, no ring support on the piston needed, piston does not come out of the block. Tom V.

But the stuff sits on the shelf until I can get the 64 Hardtop chassis car out of storage. The engine would bend up my restored 64 GTO convertible so it is not in the scheme of things. Have thought many times about cutting out the drag crap and installing a new style Morrison (or other "Road Chassis) under the solid 64 body but with the cage etc hidden in the shell. Better suspension, better brakes, better steering, better tires and wheels, similar to a Tom McQueen build deal but smaller tire. Something like this car in the 64-65 forum: http://forums.maxperformanceinc.com/...d.php?t=733455 Tom V. Engine will be EFI too.

I have a set of #16 castings. Will this head be capable of making the power(8-900hp) and are they limited with the higher rpm's?

The crank is out of the 57-block. It's a steel crank and in perfect shape.
It's the motor out of my 57 wagon and I'm not going to rebuild it. I already did one for my 4-door 57. The wagon will get a 455 motor when I can get to it. Hopefully soon. GT. |

He made a lot of power with those heads before he went to the E-Stuff. He said his 200+ MPH pass was made with the cast iron heads and a lot of boost. The heads flowed what a thick runner wall head would flow, 240-270 cfm so the heads were not "paper thin" 290 cfm type heads. Tom V.
