I just talked to Jim Moran, MBJ machine in Granite City, IL. I was planning on having him machine/build my new engine. He is retiring and not accepting any new projects. Is there a #2 Pontiac machine shop near St Louis? Someone I can or you trust.
Thanks Dean |

I don't need much work done. So I'd prefer to stay local.
I bought a fresh never fired 400, +.040 TRW flattop forged, balanced with stock recon rods w/ARP bolts, from someone needing money. I really just want to make sure it's put together right (pistons on rods correctly), etc... The pistons are currently .015 down in the hole. So I plan to disassemble the shortblock, get it decked/squared, grind out the flashing, change the oil gallery pressed plugs to tapped, with the one drilled for the distributor. I guess the minimal work I want done now any shop can do. But I'd like to find one that cares. Has good customer service etc.... |

I used Lens Crankshaft to do my block/crank back in 2005, don't know if they are still around though.

I have been with MBJ for 35 years. GONNA MISS HIM! Jim recommended Precision in Granite City. I don't have a contact # yet. Maybe Probird has an idea ?

Well, crap this isn't good. I hate to hear this but I figured it was coming sooner or later. I was really hoping his son would take it over and Jim would work when he was looking for something to do. I don't really have any ideas. Sorry.

Anyone ever use Five Star Engines in Pawnee, IL? He (dan rothe) did a good job on my old 400/406 bak in the early 90's.
