The empty sections were the last 2 towers in turn 4. They were completely empty. David Holmberg noted that these were empty by design as they weren't completed.

I remember watching at home on TV and commenting that those were prime seats to be empty.

Our first time at Daytona in 1993 we watched the Twin 125's from one of the towers in turn 4 and they are excellent seats.

I went to a July [NASCAR] race at Daytona some time in the 1990's.
Paid $ 100.00 for my seat, good price,great seat...........NOT.
During the whole race, everyone was standing, that just sucked.
I have learned that the best seat in in the house on the couch. My 2 penny's.

When you're at home, you only see the race the TV shows. If they don't show your driver, you have no clue what's going on for him/her.

Case in point...

Season ending race at Atlanta circa the late 90's. I'm a Bobby Labonte fan while he's driving the Joe Gibbs #18 Pontiac GP. Atlanta was one of Bobby's best tracks, but he screwed up in qualifying and started at the back of the pack.

I was able to watch him drive to the front by being at the race. GREAT race for a Labonte fan. Back then, I always taped the race. When I got home I watched the broadcast and never saw Labonte until he made it into the top 10.

I enjoy being at the track much more than watching on TV. But my budget and vacation situation prevents me from making more races live.

That said, I've been to every track except for New Hampshire, Pocono, Watkins Glen, Kentucky, Chicagoland and Sonoma.

We're going to Sonoma this June.

100% agree.

The spectacle is worth a trip to a track or two but standing all day, fighting the crowds and traffic, wading into and out of the toilets etc make the best seat in the house...the seat in your house with a remote control.

Correct, those high up turn one seats were under construction as was the whole facility was getting a major updating. By next year the whole facility is going to be revamped.

It appears the grandstands are going to be much taller than most of the old facility giving a bunch more visibility to those seated there. My major gripe is your too damn close to the person sitting next to you. Think about how spacious your average tourist class seat is on a plane these days, that about sums it up. I'm fairly broad shouldered and it wasn't very comfortable for me when everyone was seated. The actual seats are the seat and back from a steel folding chair welded to the grandstands.

Most of the race the touring princess lived up to her name hanging out most of the time in the back of the pack, no aggressive driving and that's how she finishes races if she doesn't crash. It was a very solid 28th place attempt most of the race. Attrition was the only way she improves position. Hopefully this will be her last season in Cup. She truly is outclassed by most any other driver on the track.

Bobby LaBonte in her car would be a great match up, the #32 car he was driving was severely under powered and obviously a low dollar effort. She needs to be out of a good car, and drive a low dollar effort car because it fits her driving style perfectly. No need for top equipment for a third rate driver.

If she had to drive a low buck car she might actually find out how good she has it where she is presently. Put forth a real effort to actually try to get a top 5 finish.

Naw, what was I thinking, that won't ever happen................

Standing during the race - my experience is less than 10% of the time. I don't mind standing on restarts as it gives me the opportunity to stretch a little...

I don't enjoy crowds and will admit this is an issue. But for all the enjoyment I get out of being at a race live, I deal with it. FWIW - most of the fans are great people and are fun to be around.

Traffic isn't so bad if you take the right route to the track - think of doing the opposite of what most people would do.

When driving to Talladega from Birmingham (near you) - I did not take the Interstate(north of the track). I took the back roads through the actual town of Talladega (south of the track) and didn't have any traffic until I could see the track. Leaving was easier as I planned my parking to exit in the direction I wanted. Took me 20 minutes to get out of the traffic and just drive. We were back in our Birmingham hotel and eating pizza while the folks who took the Interstate were still in bumper to bumper traffic.

I go to the bathroom before the race, so it's not necessary to go during the race. Of course I limit my fluid intake so that I don't have any issues in that regards.

The only track I haven't been to that I still want to go to is Talladega - I'll let you know when I'm planning on being in town.

It seems tome that to be a commentator you'd have to know something about the sport.

She is not knowledgeable about NASCAR or how the cars work etc. to be even a mediocre sportscaster, she's already a mediocre driver and that's not working out very well.
I'm thinking she needs to find another job, like modeling boys clothes............

Or maybe a politician, she can speak for 5 minutes and not say anything relevant to the subject at hand, or answer the question that was posed to her (Deer in the headlights look)..........

I've been to a lot of NASCAR races (more than most here) and people sit in their seats most of the time.

Yes, many stand up for the restarts, but as I mentioned earlier, that's mostly so they can stretch...
