I want to Fix/replace the rear bumper on the 69 as when I bought the car it had a small dent and crazing of the chrome. It seems that it is going to cost at least $1,000.00 to fix and rechrome my original bumper. I can buy one from PY or Ames for half that price. Is there any advantage to having mine re-chromed? Has anyone bought one of these bumpers and was dissatisfied?
Thanks.

I got one from Ames last year and it looks good and fit nice. Owner insisted on new.
As far as having one repaired, have you tried Tri-City Plating in Tenn.? They can do one for much less than $1000. They do all of ours and they look excellent. |

400 4spd, do they use a triple plate process or just double?

DO NOT buy a repro.....they don't fit to the car properly....the middle
horizontal top bar is about an inch too low. They look fabulous till you bolt them on the car. |

I can't speak to the repro now available, but I got my original 69 rear bumper re-chromed around 5 years ago. The car had been hit hard in the back so the bumper was very bent up, and I was a bit worried how it would come out. But the re-pops weren't available back then and good cores were hard to find. Anyway for $500 it came out absolutely straight and beautiful, fits the car perfectly, and the chrome still looks brand-new 5 years later. A good shop can do wonders and my general experience is that original is usually best.

I got one from PY and fit was great.('68) I also had Tri-City Plating do my corvette bumpers and they did a super job that was about eight years ago and they still look great.

Regarding the Ame's version, I can post pictures of it mounted on the car later in the week if wanted. I bought the more expensive one, as they were also offering a lesser cost version.

My repro looks good. I'm going to drive my car and that is why I went with a repro + my original wasn't in great shape. You be the judge. If your going to get the repro get the better one and look at it when you get it. I have seen some that had defects. Good luck with your car.

I'm running a repop on my car.
No issues in the 13+ years it's been on the car. Probably a different group of Chinese putting them out these days.....

My friend has one on his 69 and it's parked in my garage next to my GTO and LeMans which have originals. It looks nice but the upper corners where they meet the quarter they are much too squared off. The bottom shape along its length is also off but most rechromers get that wrong anyway.
For a car being done to look nice at minimal cost repro is a great way to go but if resto is what you want I think it will eat at you everytime you look at it.

I called Tri-City Plating and it's $525.00 to fix and re-chrome, so it looks like that's what I will do. Thanks 400 4spd and cuz68 for the info!!
