The Framingham GM plant did things a little differently.
The water test was done before the interior was put in. All workers in the body shop were required to wear coveralls. The body was built on the same line as the assembly steps. |

These videos are notorious for skipping around and not showing stuff in chronological order. Denting is always a concern (anywhere in the plant), but any problem areas they find on the fixture will end up with lamb's wool and tape covering it all up. After the first few hours you get the hang of it anyway. K

I saw the one at the Chrysler Museum in Pontiac. It makes quite an impression.
Thanks for posting that Keith...real interesting memories from 'someone who was there'.

Little off topic, but I just toured the Bowling Green Corvette Assembly plant last Friday when I took museum delivery of my new Corvette and it was one of the most fascinating things I have ever witnessed. Everything was done with such precision and just-in-time! I could have spent two days in that plant watching the process. The new build your own engine cell was just flat out amazing. I almost wish I had ponied up the $7K to do that option and then follow my car as it was being built. Instead, I opted for the $700 photo album and the $995 Museum Delivery.
I was fussing with the museum about keeping all the build sheet documents when they did my PDI and they told me that they didn't do that anymore but kept them to sell for fundraising purposes. I let my salesman know I wasn't happy about that. He said he'd make some calls but I didn't expect much. Well, as we were doing the tour of the plant, a guy walks up to me and my wife, and introduces himself as Jeff Lamarche, the plant manager. He thanks us for our business, asks us about the car we ordered, and chats with us for a couple minutes, then says: "I've got something for you that your salesman asked me to personally hand-deliver..." He then gives me every piece of original build sheet documentation on my car - one for every major assembly like the doors, the dash, etc, plus a few really sweet posters, drink coozies, ink pens and his business card with his cell number on it! He told me to call him if I ever had a problem with the car! It made my day to say the least. BJ

No, we had to leave cell phones, cameras and even the wives' purses in the van they drove us over to the plant in. There is a great video on YouTube of the new C7s being built and the LT1 engines being built.

So...gotta ask: What is Vintage Photo Thread Topic Wise about a new purchase 2015/16?
Perhaps a thread link redirect would suffice here? |

I found very it interesting. Glad that US auto companies are making cars that are exciting (includes Mustang, Camaro, and Challenger) enough that we want to take the time to see them built. Good Luck BJ with your new Vette.

Actually, that's pretty good, as we only kept our cars four years before replacing back then. K
