Uh oh..I was worried that the comp poly locks would still leave me high and require using a short billet spacer. Could you please provide a link or part number for the stock style nuts and I'll just go ahead and order some. I really want to get this thing buttoned up this coming weekend.

These are 1.52 ratio rockers with PN 0245501.

Thanks Bruce.

I painted the exhaust ports on the head and the exhaust runner area on the top and bottom of the intake with brush on POR 15 exhaust manifold gray paint. I'll paint over these areas with engine paint and hopefully when it burns off the gray will remain and keep things rust free.

Have any picts of that? I haven't tried it. The last couple i did I used ceramic silver header paint from rattle cans. Works really well. Any paint looks better than quick to rust steel when it burns off.

Plus its easier to touch up. what did you decide on engine color? Sorry if you posted that above, I'll peek again.

Oh, wow! that looks pretty much like cast as evident in your intake picture. No wonder I didn't see it.......

Bob,
You may try this guy for Yellow Hose. He list them for Corvette, surely they would be the same.

Yeah, I tried docrebuild. They were hateful and no help. They only sell Corvette headlight kits and don't sell by the foot. I did end up buying a vette headlight kit from another vendor because it looked like it had yellow in it. As it turns out it has a lot of yellow stripe, but it is like 7/16" OD. It also had lots of blue, red and white of the correct diameter that will be useful.

Bruce,

Sorry to be a pain here, but I am over my head and swimming against the current...

The studs are non-tapered, 7/16" straight. I will need 7/16" rocker nuts.

Thanks so much.

Bob

Question

Slight off topic: Any links to where I can purchase press-in conversion to screw-in Pontiac stud kit? Looking for one of those old school kits that can be used with heads still in car and by removing valve covers, rockers, etc. only and was described as tap threader tool, matching srewin studs etc. Thxs in advance.

Since the base of the Pontiac thread in stud is 7/16. It would make sense to go to a Big Block chevy straight type 7/16 stud so they can be adjusted easily like a chevy. BUt either way all you need a 7/16 bottom tap and the right number drill ( I have that info). I have used that conversion you speak of on a 71 head. The Pontiac threaded end of a stud will give you the depth and the amount above that is the total height including the nut. Hope this helps, FB

Project is 1973 4X 400 factory stock combo. Had been told that Mr. Gasket or (?) some company had a kit that included studs, taps, etc. to do the simple changeout. Reading Internet posts suggest machine work & other much more elaborate and detailed work needed?

Goal is to "Keep It Simple" with the changeout to retain #s matching & look. Perhaps I should just pull them send to SD...there goes that "mission creep?!!!"

Let's get Bob's Y88 thread back on track...

Well, after further consultation with Bruce it's obvious the stock type rocker nuts won't work with these PRW rockers. I have ordered some comp cam poly locks that are about 1/8" to 1/4" shorter and hopefully those in concert with a 5/16" valve cover gasket will do the trick. If not, I have also ordered a 3/8 billet spacer just in case.

Could someone check their car please and let me know how much clearance there is between the stock valve cover and the bottom of the pre-heater elbow. I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks.

Bob, I took 10 pix of that area from our 78 W72 for you...I can only load one image per post, so sorry in advance for multiple posts.

Was hard to even measure the gap - my WAG is between 1/4 & 3/8's inch was why I laid the tape over valve cover for you to see it's close and hard to get a good angle for photo & lighting.

Hope this helps you and what you are looking for? If not LMK and I'll be happy to take others for you.

P.S.: Please forgive our original messy engine bay
