That sure is a true statement Greg. Always realized that (was in auto finishing for years) but a "Is the dress white and gold?" debate was in the news last year. I thought it was the lamest debate I ever heard as the dress was obviously (to me) white and gold. Then my wife and son were in the room and they said it was obviously blue and black! WTF!? Thought they were playing me. Turns out roughly 25% see the dress as blue and black (or the other way around I forget). Check out the pic below. What do you see?
As a painter you have to remember that there is no accounting for taste in a color choice (you may think it's horrid but the customer may love it) and that may be because we can perceive hues differently. But, most everyone (no matter what shade of color they think they see) can usually spot color differences in adjacent panels or a bad paint repair blend lol.
