Last night it was Alan Parsons Project and Dead can Dance ..... all are sonic spectaculars and completely quiet thanks to:
The new record cleaner and especially the cleaning fluid are making virtually everything very very quiet. http://www.musicdirect.com/p-7216-la...ncentrate.aspx All is unplugged right waiting for thunderstorms to pass and also waiting for USPS to get here with more Living Stereos. http://audiophile.elusivedisc.com/se...al%20cat:vinyl Not cheap, but these are some fine ass records. |

Yeah, records are here. Scared the sh*t out of the woman delivering. Since its raining so hard I thought I would do her a favor by running out to her truck. She was turned the other way getting the package and then scanning it. When she turned to get out I was standing there. Pretty good scream out of her. Of course I'd scream too if I saw me.
Sorta reminds me of the time at the old house when we had a two way mailbox ..... it would open from either end. Well, the mailman was a great guy and always joking around. The mail box is surround by bushes on the backside so I thought it would be cute to hide as he was getting there and stick my hand through from the sidewalk side to his side and wave as he was opening the box. Scared him so bad that he fell off of his seat and fell to the other side of the truck. |

I have been chasing some of the more 'out of the mainstream' stuff I had on vinyl. Trying to locate it on CD. This is the most recent nugget of gold I came across. After 2+ hours of internet searching. Was a big David Peel fan back in the day. John Lennon was active with them for a while.
Still hunting for their "American Revolution" album. |

That and their first album were both released on Elektra Records; before the early 70's Asylum Records merger & label consolidation. So they probably never made it to CD.

Officially, none of three original DP albums made it onto the CD format. I have 2 of them on CD so far. These were high end back room efforts with very low output. So they are available. Just hard to find, and when you do find one you buy it immediately. |

Nope. Vinyl is a PITA. A good digital setup plays at least as well as a good analog setup. But quality digital playback is more sensitive to 'cheap' components. With digital, the weak link theory shows up loud and clear. Tubes are also a complete PITA. Been there.....done that. Used one of these for years. Still have some tubes left to sell. This was my old headphone setup. I use a Ray Samuels 'Dark Star' now. Kicks ass. A quality solid state amp is every bit the equal of a tube amp. Minus the fire hazard. |

It's a ritual. Digital is fine for background, when you don't want to get up to change every 30 min or so, car, etc. For lights down/off listening where music is the only focus, it's still hugely clear .... vinyl. "A good digital setup plays at least as well as a good analog setup" Not even close. True, digital has improved, but so has analog. I have both. Very easy for me to A / B back and forth between the best recording on both. Then it becomes very 'clear'. Even neophytes can hear it with some familiarity to my system. Electrostats require a little familiarity. Longer one listens the more obvious it becomes. "A quality solid state amp is every bit the equal of a tube amp" Not close enough. True, solid state has improved, but tube has improved faster. Have had very little trouble with tube over 50+ years of this. Not 'none' mind you, but so little that I'll continue for however long I'm here. My big system is solid state. From the beginning that was going to be temporary. However, with a tube phone stage. Only my office system is tube preamp and amp. In fact, this is my next change .... to a VAC 160i "Still have some tubes left to sell" What do you have to sell? Those were the days. Now, real difficult finding one. My dad gave his away.
While we were cleaning out the parents' house to put it on the market, I found a big box of tubes and no way to check them out. |
