I'm probably the last to know, so I'll post this on my story thread. I just learned that the 1st ever, 9 second pass, in a Pontiac powered Super Stocker (non GT) was made by a girl, Keri Angeles, in a '69 RA4 Bird.
![]() FEBRUARY 4TH, 2000 POMONA, CALIFORNIA - N.H.R.A. WINTERNATIONALS KERI ANGELES DROVE HER FATHERS 1969 R.A.FOUR FIREBIRD TO A RECORD SETTING 9.99 E.T. TO BECOME THE FIRST EVER N.H.R.A. SUPER STOCK 400 INCH PONTIAC INTO THE NINE SECOND ZONE. CONGRATULATIONS JOHN, MELINDA, KIM, AND KERI FOR ACHIEVING A LIFETIME GOAL TO BE THE FIRST S/S CATEGORY CAR, (NOT A G.T.,) TO GET IN THE NINES. TO PROVE IT WASN'T A FLUKE, THEY CAME BACK IN THE FIRST ROUND OF ELIMINATIONS FRIDAY MORNING TO WIN WITH ANOTHER 9.99 AND THEN, IN THE THIRD ROUND, WENT A 9.98! Every year, at the time we know as the Easter season, Christians celebrate the death of Jesus on the cross, his burial, and his resurrection from the dead, three days later. BUT, there was a LOT more to it than that. According to eyewitness accounts, from what we know as the New Testament scriptures, just before Jesus died on the cross, he said "It is finished".
But, there are billions of people on the earth today, including millions here in the USA, who do not believe any part of what we call the Bible, much less the account of Jesus' resurrection. Hey, nobody on earth today, was alive 2000 years ago, when these things supposedly happened. So, basically, it all boils down to whether a person believes that the Bible is truly the inspired Word of God, or not. Everyone is free to believe, or not believe. And today, especially in some countries, as we have seen on the news this week, it is not popular to believe the Bible and profess to be a Christian. It costs some their lives, to admit they are Christians. ![]() But, in this country, at least for now, most of us are allowed to profess Christianity, as long as we don't try to push it on others in the wrong public places. So, we who live in the USA should be glad that we live in a country where we are allowed to be a Christian, or to practice any religion we choose, or none, if we choose. There are probably hundreds of different religions practiced in this country. And there are probably many thousands of US citizens who are confessed atheists or agnostics, who don't believe in Jesus or anything else in the Bible. Some think they are far to educated and intelligent to believe such foolishness and utter nonsense. And, here, we are all free to believe as we will, and still be US citizens. Now, I can't force anyone to believe in this Jesus, who the Bible speaks of, or that anything written in the Bible is true, or that God even exists. But, this post is for those who do or will believe. If you watch most of the TV preachers this, or any other Easter Sunday, you'll hear most of 'em preach that when Jesus said "It is finished", then died on the cross, God's plan of redemption was finished. BUT, THIS IS NOT TRUE ! The plan of redemption was NOT finished. Even tho Jesus had suffered LOTS of pain, before his death, his suffering was not over, when his body died. No, when a human body dies, it ain't over. Human beings were created with, not only a physical body, but also with a soul and spirit, which the Bible sometimes refers to as the "inner man". So, according to the Bible, when Jesus' body died on the cross, his soul, or spirit man, went to hell. That's right. I said, he went to hell ! He had to suffer the consequences of a life of sin, not his own, but the sins of all humans who have or will live on the earth. That means that he HAD to go to hell, to pay that price, that no other human was qualified to pay. ![]() BUT, after He had paid the price, and was still in the pits of hell, his father, God himself, being satisfied that the price for the forgiveness of man's sin had been paid, reached down into hell and caused Jesus's spirit to be "reborn". And this reborn "Spirit Man" had more power than all the demons in hell, including satan himself ! So, while he was there, Jesus had a battle with all the forces of evil. And the Bible says that he spoiled principalities and powers, making an open show of them. It says that had the princes of this world known, they would not have crucified Jesus. They thought that when they persuaded men to kill his body, they would then have all power on earth, BUT, after the resurrection, Jesus said, among other things, "I have the keys of death and hell'. ALL POWER is given unto me. Where did he get this power and authority ? He won it, in the battle with satan and his buddies, which took place in hell ! That's total victory ! But wait, "It ain't over til it's over". After Jesus' resurrection, one account says that he told one lady not to touch Him, because He had not yet ascended to the Father. He ascended and offered the blood that He had shed, on the heavenly mercy seat of God. This completely satisfied God's plan of redemption for mankind. So, Jesus came back to earth and said "Handle me, a spirit hath not flesh and bone, as ye see me have". He told "doubting Thomas" to check out His body and see for himself that He was indeed the same Jesus who had been crucified. Well, he walked the earth for several days, after his resurrection, and was seen of over 500 people, including all of His disciples. Before he left, he gave them the commission to heal the sick, raise the dead, and preach the Gospel, which they did, and many are still doing today--believe it or not. The choice is yours. I choose to believe it ! How about ya'll ? ![]() PS---With today's technology, you don't even have to open a Bible to find out what it says. You can go online and Google most any question you have and the scriptures that pertain to that subject will appear on your computer screen. So you see, the internet was not created for pornography or recruiting radical Muslims to kill Christians, but was allowed by God to help spread His Gospel. Most car forums ban religious and political discussions. But right now, in the history of this country, there is absolutely nothing more important than re-establishing REAL Biblical religion into our political system, starting at the top.
I've read MANY criticisms of our current president. So, for those who don't want more of the same, a different type of president will be a step in the right direction. With this in mind, I present the following: Dr. Ben Carson has just announced his bid for the Republican nomination for president. I told TJ a while back that he was my pick. Why ? Because he does not have a political background. And because he is obviously very smart. But the MAIN reason I'm for him is because when he don't know the correct answer to a problem, he will actually pray and ask God for the right answer ! Does he have a chance to win ? It'll take a miracle of God. But TJ & I, as well as Ben Carson and a LOT of other Christians believe in miracles !

Breaker ! Breaker !
I'd like to announce the start of a new television channel. It's the Believer's Voice of Victory--Channel 265 on the Dish Network. It'll have "Word of Faith" teaching and preaching 24/7. Most of our favorite preachers and Bible teachers will be ministering the Word, on this channel. It began broadcasting today, July 1, 2015. They are broadcasting live services from this week's Southwest Believer's Convention. This is now our favorite channel, and will become the most watched channel in our house. TJ and I believe that if you will watch this channel, you and your family will benefit from it. Check it out !

This post is a wild Pontiac story that began in Louisiana, and ended in Texas. There is an Olds also involved in this story. But, since a lot of Birds came with an Olds engine, I suppose that's OK, huh ?
Well, the largest city in north LA is Shreveport. Like a lot of other cities which are located close to a river, the city has a different name and government, on each side of the river. In this case, there is Shreveport on one side, and Bossier City on the other side. Our first 2 Stocker engines were built at a machine shop in Bossier city. In our earlier years, we went to the LA State fair, which was held every year on the state fair grounds. There was a circle track there, back in the 60's. I attended several races there, including some which included 427 Fords and 426 Hemi powered cars. The only famous name I remember is Ernie Derr, who drove one of the Hemi cars. Also, on the fair grounds, was a large building, named the Hirsch Coliseum. There have been all sorts of public events held there, thru the years. My dad and I attended the boys high school basketball championship tournament there, several times during the late '60's. https://www.google.c...rsch%20coliseum Well, unknown to me, during this period of time there was a young man in Shreveport, who, like LOTS of southern rednecks was called "Bubba". Bubba had a business called "Jerry's Paint & Body Shop". Paint and body work was not as expensive as it is today. So, Bubba's business was not very successful. He took an old wrecked Olds, patched it up, and put a fresh paint job on it. That is the 1st car mentioned in the story. I just heard this story last night. I'll probably be able to post a link to it soon. But right now, there is no link. So, I'll tell it like I remember it. Bubba had to go to Tulsa, OK, in the Olds. The car had LOTS of problems. One was that the front tires were shot. But Bubba had no money to replace 'em. So, he and his family headed for OK in the Olds. Along the way, a truck passed 'em. After the truck passed, they saw 2 tires bounce off the truck. The truck was a Firestone tire truck, if I remember correctly. So, Bubba stopped and picked up the tires, out of the ditch. Being honest folks, when they got to OK, they called the Firestone tire dealers, to return their tires. But, none of them reported any missing tires. So, Bubba looked at the tires a little closer. It just so happened that the tires were exactly the size needed for the front of his Olds. So, at least Bubba knew he had some front tires that would make it back to Shreveport. Ya'll ever have any new tires, in just the right size, jump off a truck, so they could be yours ? Then, after Bubba and his family moved to Fort Worth, TX, he moved up to a '59 Pontiac Bonneville. It was nowhere near new, but in much better condition than the Olds had been. So, again, he and his wife, along with their 2 small kids went to OK. Well, they were coming back home to Fort Worth, in the wee hours of the night. Then Bubba heard a loud sound underneath the car. Although he hadn't seen anything in the road, he assumed he had run over something, which had hit under the car, making the sound he had heard. And he was right. But, at first, everything seemed to be alright. But then he noticed that his gas gauge was heading towards empty, fast. He figured that whatever had made the sound had knocked a hole in his gas tank. And he was right. There was a gash several inches long, which drained all the gas from the tank. So, here's Bubba--middle of the night, family in the car, broke down on the side of the road. No cell phones, no traffic. What's he gonna do ? Well, he decided that it would not be a good idea to leave his wife and kids there, and walk for help. So, he decided to try and flag down some help, if anybody came by. Well, he finally saw some headlights coming down the road, so he started flagging the vehicle down. Well, it appeared to be a man in a pickup, which pulled right in behind Bubba. Bubba told him the situation. The reply was "That's what I'm here for". Well, he hooked a chain to the Pontiac and pulled it back to a small town a few miles down the road. Out near the main highway, there was a small cafe, with a small service station, beside it. So, the guy pulled the car up to the station, turned on the lights, and he and Bubba pushed the Pontiac inside. The guy repaired the tank, filled it up with gas, but wouldn't accept a dime from Bubba, in payment for the work or the gas. He just said again "That's what I'm here for". So, Bubba thanked him, and they drove on back to Fort Worth. Later on, Bubba was on another trip to OK, and decided to stop in at the station to thank the man again for what he had done for them. But he found that the service station was closed, and looked like it hadn't been used in years. But the cafe was still open. So, he went inside to inquire about the man that had helped him. They didn't know who Bubba was talking about, and told him that the service station had been closed for many years, and there had been no gas in those pumps for a long time, nor any electricity hooked up to the building. So, who do ya'll suppose helped Bubba that night ? Who was driving the truck ? Who turned on the lights, without electricity ? Who fixed the tank and filled it up, from dry pumps ? Any ideas ? I know !

Bubba was just on Dish channel 265 . He mentioned being at the drag races in Hallsville, TX, where we use to race. His dad was a real good body man and raced a lot. So Bubba got to go to the races with his dad, from a young age.
At a Hallsville race, a guy wrecked a '58 Vette. He bought the Vette and talked his dad into fixing it for him. His dad was one of the 1st body guys GM trained to fix the FG body of the Vettes. Bubba said his dad built several cars that made it into some of the car mags. Hey, it's just a little "Bubba trivia".

I finally got a chance to watch the video again, and discovered that the Pontiac was a '69 Bonneville, instead of a '59.

I assume it is just his private collection. I just listened to that part again. He called it his shop. His wife said "Stop calling it a shop. It's a museum." So, as far as I know, it is not open to the public.

Well, it's been a REAL slow project. But, our "Born Again" repro will now move under it's own power. And we have begun to decorate it a bit. Most of the old school race cars had lots of stickers, a name, and a flat snorkel scoop.
Our 1st "Born Again" was a '68 Bird, with a 455, TH400, 12-bolt rear, slapper bars, and stickers. Our 2nd "Born Again" was a '67 Bird, with a 455, TH400, 12-bolt rear, roll bars, and a snorkel scoop. So, our 3rd "Born Again" is a combination of the first two cars. It's a '68 Bird, with a 455, TH400, 12-bolt rear, roll bars, slappers, a glass hood with flat snorkel, and some stickers. No, it ain't an exact clone, but you can see the resemblance. Obviously, if the budget was bigger, the build would be better. But, this car is still low budget, just like all our previous race cars have been. In fact, this build has been almost no budget. It ain't near ready for competition. But, thanks to a lot of help from some racer friends, I can now crank it up and make some noise ! ![]() It's hard to explain, to someone who don't understand, just exactly what it means to an old racer, to have a race car he can look at, tinker with, and hear it run--whether it ever makes a pass or not. ![]() So, THANKS A LOT guys, for all the help !!!

Thanks Greg !
Instead of cutting the letters from decal material, like she did on the first two "Born Again" Birds, TJ decided to paint the letters on this car. Turns out that the paint I bought was too thin, requiring several coats. So, she stopped, til next week, when some better paint gets here. I think I mentioned this earlier in the thread--not sure. But this car was raced by a friend we call "Oogene", after a puppet by that name, on the Gospel Bill TV show. His real name is Eugene. So, the name just seemed to be a natural fit, to us. He told me that I had originally sold the car to him, along with a couple of parts cars, tho I didn't remember doing that. Anyhow, glad to have the old Bird back. It's just sorta cool.

Obviously, the writing on the trunk lid goes along with the name on the doors. Jesus Himself, is the one who said "You must be born again". But, that don't mean that everybody WILL be. It's a choice that everybody has to make, for themselves.
Some believe in Budda, some in Mohammed, some in various other gods, some in Satan himself, and some are atheists or agnostics and don't believe in any higher power. Some believe there is an afterlife of some kind--some that when you die, that's the end. What do you believe ? The decision to be "Born Again" or not, is one that each person MUST make for themselves. But, the sad part is that IF a person does not receive this "new birth", while alive, on this earth, it is eternally too late. Now, if as some believe, there is no afterlife, then the notion of a Biblical "new birth" experience is completely ridiculous. BUT, IF, on the other hand, the Bible is true, then it will be MUCH better to leave this earth as a "Born Again" Christian !!! I can only speak from my own experience. Even IF there is no afterlife, or heaven, or hell, my life has been MUCH, MUCH better, since I prayed to receive this "Born Again" experience. I immediately lost my desire for the life of alcohol and sin I'd been living. No, it didn't make me "perfect"--FAR from it. But, if the Bible is true, I got my ticket to Heaven. And if it ain't true, my life on earth has been better because of whatever brought about the change in me. ![]() For anyone who would like to know how to be "Born Again", here's some links to exactly how it's done. https://www.biblegateway.com/passage...0&version=NIRV http://www.gotquestions.org/Romans-road-salvation.html http://www.matthewmcgee.org/roman-rd.html Last edited by ponyakr; 10-11-2015 at 03:49 PM. |
