the white one looks respectable. I was watching that one, but the auction ended...must have been relisted for a short duration?
On second thought, just reviewed the pics again. The VIN tag, cowl tag rivets and VIN stamp on the block look suspect. Last edited by blue71ta; 12-09-2015 at 11:49 PM. |

'71 production in respect to usage of original dated components is its own animal, whoever sourced the block for this one did so with limited knowledge.

The blue car is attractive...but incorrectly "over restored".....
The interior just rubs me the WRONG way...totally..... Just goes to show that the ones that give away the trophies.....go for "bling"....NOT originallity...

1971 Formula 455HO for sale at Mecum Kissimmee. Good looking car, but has some needs. Interesting that even though it isn't matching numbers, they are guiding to a value higher than two NOM 1970 Trans Am's, and three matching numbers 1974 SD's.

I think the "tank" car was the one at Motoexotica in ST Louis that looked like this one, but was originally quoizel gold. The Mecum ad refers to the color of this car as being "correct Cardinal red" which of course could be slightly deceptive.
I didn't realize that Mecum let you do that. Sort of an expansion on the phantom bid process at Mecum. I heard the SD's at the Schaumburg auction weren't exceptional, but it's a close call between a questionable Formula or SD. |

I think when that incredible Red/Black '71 455HO (HPP article car with 4 speed, no spoiler) sold in Dallas last year for $70k plus commission, this seller got a little of the Barrett-Jackson syndrome and decided his car might bring close to that price.
https://www.mecum.com/lot-detail/DA0...rmula/4-Speed/ This Kissimmee car, if I remember right, was originally gold/brown with no stripe and I can't remember if it had ram air from the factory or if it was added. The car has been for sale off and on for over 2 years. My take on the wording for the color is he means it was a correct available color for a '71. I'm pretty sure it's the same car as the fender vents and rear light bezels were left red when they should both be black to match the stripe.

Was that the one that was restored at Musclecar Alley?

The real red one was well restored by Tom Fischer formerly at MCA. Now making up some nice Black for another HO formula..
The color change red orphan auction one is a factory RA. Would be a sweet one done right. Loaded with options!

...not much info on this one here; a few under-hood/interior/trunk shots would be more helpful....looks like 74 & up rear spoiler extensions??...
