Also note the spectators with no place to run if a racer should get out of shape.

Brian, thanks for all those priceless pics! Thanks for the education! It makes sense why the Back of the Yards neighborhood where that event took place has always been a hotspot for street racing even for us younger guys. For the first few years that I owned my goat (00-02) I used to street race in the Stockyards industrial park on Fri & Sat nights back then and it was a really big scene there, used to get off the Dan Ryan at 43rd and enter the place right there on Halsted, it was a fast in and out for me since I lived 2 mins from the Kennedy on the north side. There was a big scene actually much bigger than the Stockyards all the way by 103rd & Stony Island Av but I would never be caught dead there for obvious reasons. The SY spot was very cool while it lasted, but I stopped going when the fast and the curious douchbags started to flood the scene. After seeing those inexperienced turd jockeys crash their slow junk more than a few times I sobered up real quick and stopped going.

I Really Admire The Guts and Glory the Old Timers Lived- It Up to the Max.
I call Them The Old Guard.
A good part of the Corvette world I spent time in we are Street Race Happy.
And into Politics .
I hated especially when our current POTUS / BAM BAM KILLED PONTIAC MOTORS.
NEVER FORGIVEN BY ME.

I am in Tim Buck 2 outside of Chicago but just 1 hour driving time.
I spent years around Joliet.
Worked in A Race shop in New Lenox last year.
I am an ASE Master Auto Mechsnic & Diesel Mechanic.
Went back to working on Big Diesel Semi trucks.
Stable and steady. $ is decent also.

5.0 Guys I know well in Chicago .
I built many Drag Race Rear Diffs for them 2000-2007 till the big crash.

Yes.
I recall reading the The garage door opening to shutdown after the 440 feet run was only 11 feet wide or so.
Driving through at 80 + Mph.
