One of the coolest planes of WW2 was the Mosquito - Did some of the most daring raids of the War at tree top level - against Gestapo HQ's - shoot down the V1 Buzz Bombs etc. some would even come home with branches etc. stuck in their planes - they were good for 400 mph

This is from 1984, the year Senna came into F1, driving the Segafredo Zanetti (coffee) sponsored Toleman car.

The names on the list are impressive. From the top, I can read:

Alain Prost, Niki Lauda, Derek Warwick, Nelson Piquet, Mario Andretti, (the next two are obscured), Teo Fabi, Ghin (unknown), Riccardo Patrese, Derek Bell, Wink (unknown), Rene Arnoux, Bouton, Nigel Mansell, Patrick Tambay, Gerhard Berger.

Senna was a master at qualifying, and also a demon in the rain. His rookie year, driving a terrible Toleman car, he nearly won the Monaco Grand Prix in a heavy rainstorm. In fact, he would have won it if it weren't for some politics, as the president of F1, a Frenchman, stopped the race early. His favorite driver, as Alain Prost (another Frenchman) was leading, but his lead was being cut by several seconds per lap, and this young kid named Ayrton Senna was closing in. Another few seconds, and Senna would have won. Amazingly, Senna had never driven the Monaco track before that weekend, and it's the most demanding and unforgiving racetrack in all of F1.

Agreed! If you get a chance, watch the 1964 British movie "633 Squadron". It's all about a WWII Mosquito squadron (fictitious) and has wonderful, color footage of Mosquitoes in action. I had never heard of the movie until about 5 years ago when it popped up on cable. A must for WWII warbird fans!

Good movie One real raid they helped many resistance fighters escape from a prison by bombing the thick walls and hittng the guards at noon when they were in the mess hall

I loved "633 Squardon" so much, I went out and bought a plastic Mosquito model kit at the local hobby shop and built my own. They were beautiful planes!

I was heavily involved with R/C scale planes 15~18 years or so and the Mosquito was definitely one that was on my list of 'want to build' planes. Especially, since the full-scale plane was wood too. You have to be really sure of your engines with a twin though. An engine out situation is a real challenge with remote control planes.

You might like this Greg, a little faster than a Mosquito and was operational before the war. We could have used them on Dec.7. After watching the video it becomes apparent that after tweaking with settings this plane could have done the long range duty of the P51 over Europe. With turbochargers it has a 44,000 ft. service ceiling which is equal to mustang. and a top speed depending on models from 414 mpg to 435mph.

Yep, the P-38 was on my 'twin' list...as was the F7F, and the stripped down B-25 with the nose bubble replaced by .50 cals... So many planes, so little time....lol. The P-38 is a little more complex to build though. Those twin booms add up to a lot of measuring twice cutting once.
Of course, when electrics got so popular in the hobby, it made twins much more manageable from an R/C modelers standpoint...but I'm kind of out of the hobby now.

How about the Howard Hughes plane;
The hillside above has houses where I grew up and looking straight west past the hangars you can see the beach of Playa del Ray and Pacific Ocean. Hughes Aircraft located in Culver City Ca. The hill above is Westchester CA. As kids, we had plenty of time on the bluffs watching Super Connies, F-86's as well as WW2 fighters take off and land. In the late 70's some fool with a 747 mistook the Hughes airfield for LAX and nearly scared us neighbors to death watching all the faces in the windows go by!
