Mike, This is an awesome thread and will hopefully help shed some light on engines of this caliber for those that are not normally exposed to them. These kinds of threads are very much needed in our small community. As you already know so many guy's don't know what all is involved in making even 800 HP. I know some of the build you cannot or will not expose, but please show as much as you can. Thanks for sharing !!!!

Maybe someone has some better graphics software than the freeware I use. The fact that the head is on an angle does not help. I am getting around 2.25-2.3" for the intake and around 1.8" for the exhaust.

So quick math will tell you that a 2.3 intake and a 1.8 exhaust will not fit in a stock valve location. This head utilizes a stock valve location.

I really do wish they were that big

With the 1.8" exhaust, 2.25 would be about as big as can fit.

2.3" would work but the exhaust would probably have to be around 1.7" or less.

The original valve seats may need replacing though for this size, though.

Very nice chamber work, I think 2.25 x 1.74 . Thanks for the look inside your engine Mike.

Nice effort. Mike is a pretty talented dude. He's built nearly everything in the car himself. Guys like him and Marcella seem to have a drive to go way above and beyond. I wish I had that drive. But, no time for that.

We had a 2.250" intake and a 1.800" exhaust in our heads with stock valve location. Very close together. So much so that on nitro and at high RPM's due to the large stem to guide clearance required, they hit each other. We reduced the exhaust head diameter and increased the stem diameter to 3/8". Problem solved. Normally aspirated, 2.250/1.80 would work OK even with a 5/16" intake stem, but I wouldn't build a max effort engine with those sizes. I would think a larger intake and slightly smaller exhaust would be a better choice, which is probably what Mike chose. Good luck on the dyno.

Exhaust valve size is critical in n/a engine as well. Pumping losses and camshaft compromise shows up fast in n/a engine ... can't mask it. Exhaust is equally important as intake in n/a.
