Vinyl tops seem contrary to stock car image, yet many seem to be on the production winged cars sold (???)............... odd it was even an offered option....

It covered the multitude of bodywork sins committed at the factory to get that rear window plug in there.

All Superbirds had a black vinyl top. As said above, it was to cover the really large seams between the additional rear window "plug" that housed the concave rear window, and the C-pillars. This was a result of the extensive and time consuming body work that had to be done to blend in the 1969 Daytonas' rear plug and fastback window.

That was from "Corky" a movie Robert Blake was in (well before he did or didn't murder his girlfriend).

I know Mopar had to make X amount of Daytona's and Superbirds available to the public. My question is how many were made for race teams?

Found this photo today of a red, white, and blue Superbird. I immediately recalled an old HO scale slot car (Tyco) I used to have with this exact same paint scheme. Anyone know anything about this particular car, and why Tyco made a replica of it back then?

There is a short discussion of it on page 10 of this thread. You even had a comment on it there. Post 185, 187.

Yes, thank you Greg!

This new photo is of the actual red. white, and blue car, where the posts on Page 10 simply reminded me of the old Tyco HO slot car.

I'm wondering if Tyco painted their slot car to look like this custom Superbird, or vice-versa. Perhaps this was a show car at the time?
