You are correct sir! Missed / overlooked the "J&K Motors" signage to the left...instead focused on the zoomin of the Pontiac Buick GMC Trucks signage under the Huskey sign.

Husky must have ad something to do with GM, look at the GM Guardian Maintenance sign for Pontiac, Buick, GMC Trucks attached and just below on the same pole as the Husky sign. Plus the Chevy OK used car sign under that

It's fortunate for the whole world that their resources lagged far behind ours.

We had a few small used car lots like that in town in the late 70's & early 80's. Just an office big enough to turn around in. They were consignments lots as I remember. I guess the land became too valuable & they all fell to larger commercial buildings & parking lots.
Could look at picts like that all day.

Mike I'm not sure resources lagged behind I was thinking Hitler s leadership. They could have had the jet fighter sooner Hitler seemed to want bombers. Amazing they developed blitzkrieg but they developed a tank that was immense that couldn't traverse the ground,to heavy.I am glad our way of life, society has survived the wars. Now the 'war' within is scary.

It is important to understand that the United States from a economic and manufacturing standpoint are in the same position Germany was in those days.

In the case of Germany and what very little help from the other axis powers was, and Germany only the size of Montana, had little hope of winning a three front war. Still, if there hadn't been the war, it would have taken another ten years to have gotten to the Moon, among many other things our military and the Russians military take for granted today.

One real difference in Germany's resources and the U.S.'s was the forced labor they had to utilize in occupied countries, whereas the U.S. was totally self sufficient with a motivated work force and even supported her allies with a staggering amount of materiel.
Hitler's leadership was certainly in no small way a major factor also but even with good leadership, I think that in the 1940s Germany and Japan lose a war of attrition with the U.S., GB and the USSR....but it may have been a much longer and costlier war.

Try and look at it this way when comparing Germany then and the U.S. now.

Germany then, from a practical standpoint to win would need to rely ( Hitler didn't know this only Speer ) on it's limited number super weapons like the ME 262, Me163, V-1 (first cruise missile ) , V-2 ( first supersonic ballistic missile ) , Type 21 Submarine ( first teardrop hull, smooth sail capable of 20+ knot submerged speed with homing torpedoes ) They also had retro boots that were the first successful launching of a missile from a submerged submarine( we didn't get that until the 60's). With the V-2 they were not only going to put a nuke warhead on it, they unlike the U.S. with a atomic bomb, were using heavy water to go a step further and produce a Hydrogen Bomb.
You must realize these weapons would not be built in mass quantities and this is the position the U.S. finds itself in today. For massive retaliation we are fine, but for a long and protracted war we do not have the manufacturing capabilities to sustain a war. Due to the largest corporate tax rate in the free world we have sent our manufacturing, and lately much of the IT stuff abroad, and in many cases to our enemy.

The ME163 was a flying deathtrap. It killed more pilots in training and landing accidents than combat losses. Nasty machine...utilized hypergolic fuels that would dissolve flesh upon contact.

No question that the U.S. is a different kind of country today than it was then. Let's pray that we never have to face a test like that anytime soon. I'm afraid the outcome would be far different.

Greg, The next test will be when the dollar collapses under the weight of this huge debt ( and it will because it's not sustainable ) everyone here will be fighting their neighbor, state and federal gov. all at the same time. What a mess we are in.

Like I said...Let's pray. Hopefully this younger generation is more resilient than I've seen any evidence of.

Yes and if you go back several (many really) pages to see the original posts that too was covered. Along with various recreations over time and eye-witness and German Mechnaic passenger recounting the accident.

The wagon in the color pic is same as the B&W above...
