Was thinking of pulling the trigger and finally getting the Ram air setup this summer.

I see the "Parts Place" is selling a kit. They would be my last choice. Anyone use them?

Who else sells an all metal kit? Is Warpath Restoration still around?

I bought mine about 5-6 years back. I'm not 100% sure, but more than likely was from the Parts Place. Everything fit well.

I found a set on Ebay that was much more reasonable than Parts Place (see price update note below). I was sent that way by someone on a Pontiac page on facebook. Out of Ohio I believe.
It was substantially cheaper then any of the catalog vendors and the only thing not included were the open hood scoops.

While I was looking for the link I see the Parts Place is now offering the same kit with the scoops for the price of the one I bought. It wasn't that way 6 months ago, but I guess that's what happens when a new player shows up.

Anyway, my set fit well. The pan shipped as raw metal so I painted it, but that was no biggie to me.

Now that the prices are the same as TPP it's probably not the way to go, but I thought I'd share anyway.

I think those are all made by Goodmark. My Parts Place (likely) was $450 about 6 years ago, and came with aftermarket hood scoops. I sold the aftermarket scoops (don't fit OEM hoods), for $60. So was into my setup for under $400.
Most any dealer that sells Goodmark should be able to get these.

Warpath is selling on eBay now. I just did this to my '68 GTO and got a substantial savings buying the parts seperately from a PY member who has a connection with Warpath. I already had a set of open scoops but got everything I needed from him with the exception of the wing nut, filter element and one of the foam pieces. Even after buying those parts from our host, I probably saved $150 or so over buying the kit.

I got my setup from the parts place ebay store last year and everything seems to be pretty good. I had no problems with the purchase what so ever. Now I just need to get them and my hood painted so I can actually get everything installed.

Been stamping the upper and lower pans for about 15 years in upper Ohio. I’m probably one of the only fools out there that would spend the amount of money I did on large forming dies for such a small run of pans but just love the 68 RA cars. Used two of mine and Barry Martin brought a couple to Norwalk to get good dimensions off of.

Made the correct foam seals only because I needed them for my 68 FB and they were never the right shape. (They are not in any catalog only sell them directly)


Parts Place use to purchase the pans from us but then decided to take them and send them to China to duplicate. On a good note, for some reason China punched extra holes in the upper pan so it is easy to tell at a show if they are ones imported by Parts Place.

I should have just took that money and bought a 69 TA back then. Would have been money ahead right now and had much more fun.

Oh there are plenty of reasons you can do that - I think everyone here has one (at least) of their own!

I have an original pan set for my 68 but have Brian's foam.

I may have bought upper and lower foam for my Firebird from you on Ebay? I can say, its the best. After 2 tries from NPD, their foam was CRAP.

On my car I glued down the foam seal with yellow weatherstrip adhesive. For opening the scoops I purchased a spare set at a swapmeet and opened them. As far as the bracing under the hood I decided not to cut anything. The upper ram air pan will still fit and enough air will still get in.

I was lucky enough to find an open pair at a swap meet for $20. When I had my car painted, I had both sets of scoops painted with it.
I used black weatherstrip adhesive for the upper pan but I used refrigerator magnets to secure my lower foam to the pan. You only need it to stay in place when the hood is up. It ain't going anywhere when the hood is down!
I did cut the bracing on my hood because I wanted to actually get the upper pan to fully seal to the underhood. I wanted all carb air to come in from the outside. Again though, this is a GTO so you guy's mileage may vary as they say.
You all are actually in luck that the instructions included in the kit are for a Firebird.
One more tip- Make sure you glue the upper pan seal to the outer perimeter of the pan. If it's too far inboard, the foam will be visible looking into the scoops, partly blocking the opening. I had to adjust mine a couple of times to get it where I wanted it, completely out of sight.

I have a 2nd hood with open scoops but wrong color. I'm thinking once I put the pans on they are not coming off so I might as well just cut them open rather then paint up my other scoops.

What do you guys do about rain and washing the car? Do you plug them or anything?

Another dumb question but can the engine breath if you plug the air scoops or is that the only source for air?

Any pics of the brace cut on the hood?

How did you do the refrigerator magnets on the foam?
