I guess Tom V must conclude that every racer on the show except Kelly is as dumb as a rock.
cosgrove, if everything was fair, then all would run at the same weight but this is street racing. Kelly has an advantage with his vehicle weight, all understand that deal. The Crow-Mod will even out some of that deal.

Kelly has raced with Different Starters over the years, obviously Justin cannot be the starter and the driver of the GTO at the same time, DOH!

I have nothing against Mr Kelly, I just always root for Justin and the other 405 guys to win in those races. So far that deal has not happened much.

Cosgrove, you and others want to say that I am calling you dumb. Don't believe that I have done that in this topic, George is the one calling people names, not me.

I just asked if people knew why Kelly always leaves first and always gets a "Green Light" consistently vs a "Red Light" that typically all others get occasionally.

So again, You and other PY members, when you don't or can't answer the question, revert to "Kill the Messenger" or "Call The Messenger" names. At least you are consistent on that deal. Why don't you just answer the question, what is the "Tell" that gives Kelly the advantage or is it a piece of equipment that gives him the advantage and he just 'dials it in' based on the starter.

Have a nice evening.

I don't think you called me anything, and you will have to point out where I called you a name of some sort. It IS Tom V. right?
I never said Justin should start his own races. But it should be obvious to any racer that if the starts are not fair, then a starter with a reliable "tell" should not be used. Personally, I think SO racers are smart enough to know this. Apparently, you think they are not.
Many things in racing are not fair. But fair starts are something every racer will demand.
If you have been around racing much, you should know that reaction times vary from driver to driver. Kye Kelly just happens to have very good reaction times and can do it consistently. He doesn't need a "tell". There is your answer.
And you have a nice evening too.

If OK requires turn signals, it's not a problem.

They're wired.

It's made for tv drama. Long "dong" Johnson and his back yard gang would win the bulk of the races if it was called "Street Outlaws,Pennisberg LA"
There is no "tell" in the script except I tell you who is going to win. Anybody that thinks otherwise belongs in the "Hillary is Honest" fan club!
**do not confuse my comment with real racing as I have no idea
It was a fun show back in the early days when it at least seemed real!

605 PY Posts and ifdsteve nails it. It is a reality show.

They do multiple takes of each part of the "action"
They have a "plot"
They have a "hero" or "heroes"

I really thought John Wallace was going to post up the answer to 'What is the "Tell"?

Post #468 "I have many videos of my Firebird leaving.
You can see on slow motion the front rising up at the 2nd light, which is .500 second before the bottom light, which is .500 second from green.
(that's 1 second!)"

Post #478 "It would be easy for a starter with a flashlight to mitigate such an obvious tell - just wait 1 second before turning the light on. It isn't plausible that every aspect of this show isn't discussed in great detail by the participants, ...

(Or the Producer or Film Crew, John). Deal is John you don't really see "The Start" because obviously there would be a time delay before the cars actually moved, as you said. In the one show, for drama, they watch the film to see if the light was on before Kelly's car started to move. Of course the light was on, it had to be on (as Wallace said about one second earlier).

That was my point about Kelly always leaving first and never red lighting, it is impossible for the star to redlight when the the show people put the film together.

The 'tell" is the Producer. He decides what the action will be. When the cameras on on the outside of the cars, inside the cars, behind the cars and a shot of two cars going by at some speed at the 1/8th mile flashlight. They announce the "spread" between the cars.

It iS a reality show, like ifdsteve says and "Anybody that thinks otherwise belongs in the "Hillary is Honest" fan club!"

Some on this board, "The Expert Bracket Racers" seem to have gotten caught up in the drame. Sure the cars are fast and quick on a real track. Real street racing does not have Police keeping the actors and other people out of danger, helicopters, ambulances, fork lifts to move wrecked cars off the "track", etc.

The only real deal is the arrogance and lack of filming knowledge of a few drag racers on this site.

I am not even going to read the reply from the guy with the 74 GTO as he said he was done with the conversation.

Really happy for Justin and the 405 Guys that they have a successful Reality Show, and have been on TV for about 8 years now.

The Crow-Mod should really fly.

You are correct, somewhat, they will be filming Year number 4 sometime in the next few months. Are you saying less than 3 years? 2 years?

The first show appeared on TV on June 10, 2013 which makes your statement almost correct.

This link shows 8 SEASONS of shows so far. I misread that as 8 years.

http://www.sidereel.com/street_outlaws/episodes

Not sure how they figure Seasons vs Episodes vs Years. They had 63 Episodes so far which would line up with 8 episodes per year or 8 years on the TV which was my mistake.

Not really that important to me but if you want your check mark for being correct I will give it to you, I think we were both wrong, actually. You must be a real fan.

Is the tune up on the Crow so close to the ragged edge that it needs new bearings every pass?

Should not be as Travis and Rodney basically are running a bunch more boost and the shortblock was not messed with (according to Travis) for a couple of years.

There may be other things going on with the engine calibration that we are not aware of.

Believe Rodney and Travis used the FAST XFI system for several years and then recently Travis had training on the Holley System.
Not sure if Justin is using the Holley System or the FAST stuff. Justin does all of the calibration stuff himself and is a sharp tuner.

I think it's those standard o-reilly bearings.

That little 482 with all that boost is screaming for mercy!! I am sure he needs bearings more often than normal at the level he is at. He has to push it, he runs guys with almost double the C.I.
