i see them often on craigslist..you just have to be diligent...use something like searchtempest.com
you can do a search for X amount of miles from your location..or coast to coast

front cover..cam among other things ..maybe inside of block-but you can still bolt a 63 into a 62 and vice versa

61-2 used a flat top pistion in the 10.25:1 4 cylinders and dished in the 8.6:1 motors, 63 all were flat tops and the difference in compression ratio was with the head. 61 had a different 4bbl intake than the 62-3's. 63 has the alternator bracket. I put a 63 motor in a 62 Tempest, everything will bolt up. Gary |

its been 30 years since I built one..so my memory isn't real clear-but I think the rear cam journal is larger

T4 camshafts
The Pontiac parts manual list the camshaft number for 61-63 T/4 engines with the same cams...pn 539099 (J) for dual valve springs and pn 537995 (H) for single valve springs. They are interchangeable. Same cams were used in all 3 years.

Trynsave, I forget stuff a lot quicker than 30 years ago ! You may have been thinking about the way Pontiac controlled the compression ratio in the 4cylinders. 61-62 it was controlled by the piston domes and 63 by cylinder head combustion chamber size.
About the only differences I know of. |
