To answer your second question...
About a year ago there was a triple black '68 convertible Ram Air for sale online with an instrument cluster tach with 5500 redline. I have no idea if that is original or correct but it must be available somewhere. That car is the early Ram Air model that many refer to as RAI.

I would like to know myself what is the correct redline for the tachs on these cars. Maybe someone knows of a documented survivor car that has a tach and can post a photo.

Excellent. Thanks for the info. My hood tach is 5100 so that it what I was planning on using when it gets restored.

Is it the guy you met out at MCACN?

There was an original paint car out in Nebraska that I thought we were going to be adding, sadly not so.

Yes it is. I might be able to get him to send me a picture of the BHC.

Default RAII GTO - Ohio

I bought a blue 68 GTO back in 7/96 from a seller in Valley City OH. It had a '67 400/400 auto, with highway gears in a BOP rearend. It appeared to have a rough life, showing about 65,000 on the ODO. Hand written on the PHS info is "Your GTO is a RAM AIR II". Originally Verdoro Green, black interior, 4.33 rear. Even the original front bucket seats were gone. CBH attached. is this car on the list or is it one of the missing? Thank You!

From what I can tell your car is not on the list yet and would be the earliest one to date. It is right on the cusp however and your EUN is 6462 before mine.

Zone 8 is Cleveland Ohio but dealer 223 is unknown.

What's the status of the car now - do you still own it?

Interesting that your BHC does not have the handwritten adjustment seen on the early Firebird RAII cars and my 5/27/68 car. EUN on my car is 48163 before yours.

5/24/68 is the earliest GTO BHC that I have seen as well. Would like to see BVZ do an invoice breakdown to confirm RAII. I did a quick tally on my end and I come up really close (off by $1.00). I used $37.50 for destination charges based on a window sticker posted earlier on a car with dealer 08-231.....Should be pretty close to the destination charge for this car so I would say the BHC adds up to a RAII car.

Tom, what is the date code on your cowl tag?
5C/5D?

The EUN listed on the BHC for my car is 655492. I guess the early engines were shipped out to the remote assembly plants a few weeks ahead of the changeover date?

I don't know of a lower EUN to appear on a verified deuce GTO. As far as I know, nobody has identified all the BHCs related to deuce GTOs like was done for the Firebirds. I would be interested to see the EUNs for the early deuce birds. (Although may be near impossible since some BHC had blanks in the EUN box...).

Prior to Tom's car....I haven't seen a BHC for any deuce GTO built during the week of 5/20/68 so I have wondered about the possibility that the magical 5/20/68 date was for the Firebird changeover and maybe the GTOs changed over to RAII the following Monday (5/27/68). However this recent BHC puts that idea to rest and we know at least one deuce GTO was built during the 5/20/68 week. Would still need someone like BVZ to break down the invoice to make sure but I am nearly sure this is a real RAII because we have at least 3 verified deuce GTO EUN that are lower than this car.

Has to be a RAII in my opinion...

FYI, Jim Mattison told me that my car is the earliest deuce vert goat that he knows of but I don't know if that means he just hasn't come across another BHC yet or if he has culled his records and compiled a list of all RAII GTOs. I believe such list exists for Firebirds but I am not sure about GTOs. If anyone has additional info, please share with us.

Thanks for the breakdown. I came up with same info except I was using $37.50 for destination (which was a guess on my part...). I don't have any list or guide of the destination charges by zone/dealer. Is that available anywhere for download?
