Default Aftermarket outer window fuzzies question

The factory outer window fuzzies are clipped and screwed in place. The aftermarket ones I have have clips and no holes for screws. I could drill some, but to get proper location would be tough. I wonder if I use weatherstripping adhesive and just clip them in place? I'm sure many of you have changed these, what did you do?

I only recall the quarter window fuzzies requiring a screw (that also holds the well molding on the convertible). If the door outer ones are held by a screw as well (could be as I don't really remember) can't you mark the new fuzzy with the screw hole from the old one?

They are a little different, the original "GM", and the aftermarket isn't exact, but close. I might try to drill holes, but it may be quite challenging to get it right. I am doing the headliner, rear shelf, upper door channel weatherstripping, door panels, outer fuzzies, carpet, recovering seats...the seats I'm having someone do those for me, but the rest I'm doing. I also have a dash pad shell that I'm installing over my cracked dashpad...as I don't have $2000 for Just dashes to do mine. My dash pad shell was $150, and once installed you can't really tell. The headliner will take some doing, but I have done one before, took my about 20 hours of work.

I have all of those in a box & haven't even looked at them yet. I also have one NOS GM one I could compare it with. Mine are for a 68 though, not sure if you have a 68, or 69 or if it matters as far as the screw is concerned. Now I am curious......

You are correct. OEM had holes, aftermarket doesn't!

At first I was thinking poke a hot pin through it, but I see they have metal in the center of them.
I could measure the NOS one for you if it would help? Are your windows in? could you install the strip & somehow mark the backside of the strip through the hole, remove it again & drill it out? Might also consider making a new hole through the strip & door at the same time provided you can move it just far enough so you don't partially hit the original hole? guess theres a few options.

I will be going through this myself hopefully this coming summer.

Did you find the fuzzys with the chrome piping? When I ordered mine nobody had them for the 68 convertibles. I called Ames & they said they didn't know when or if another run would be made. I ended up finding a last set at a opg. Never checked to see who got them back in stock. Rumor was they might not reproduce the ones with the chrome piping anymore for the 68 certs.

Mine does have the chrome piping...this weekend I'm going to work on it, and try to figure something out. The quarter windows should be easy. To lower the glass to get at the screws in the door fuzzies I have to take out a rubber bumper...I don't see a adjustable stop with a bolt...it just looks like a large rubber bumper, which looks like if I can get it out, would be tough to get back it...the rubber is a little harder than it was in 1968.

The pic looks like the quarter glass fuzzy? does the OEM also have hole(s) in the door glass fuzzy? As I recall I was missing the drivers door outer fuzzy and put in a new repro fuzzy. The clips lined up perfectly with the slots in the door skin and the snapped in nicely. Didn't need a screw IMO as it was held fast but if I saw that the original had one I'd be inclined to put it back in too.

The top one is the GM left door & aftermarket below it, same side. I didn't look at the qtr glass strips, not sure if those have holes or not but I'm guessing they don't? No doubt the holes in the doors where made by self tapping screws based on where the seal fit at the time of original install. I'm guessing if they came with the holes, not many of them would fit correctly. I'll be really tempted to do it the same way they did it originally, but just move the hole over 3/16" if there is room to do that. I think the door seal might hide that screw head? not sure, but they look close to each other.

On your convertible the stainless trim that goes around well is held on with clips and also screws that go through the outer fuzzy. Not sure about the hard top version though.

I put some on my 68. The repo ones did not have holes, but the oem did and was held on buy two screws, one at the leading edge and one at the trailing edge and had the clips between that just slid into the slots in the door skin. I just laid the old oem on top of the repo and drilled the correct holes and used the oem screws that I took out to install the repo ones. I'm pretty sure I got them from Ames , but it has been about 6 years.
